Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.


We are in search of new talent in the following position...

Position: Development Assistant



Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Development Assistant supports fundraising and development initiatives handling administrative tasks, database management, gift processing and research. This position requires a dynamic, detail-oriented individual with a passion for the nonprofit sector, and the ability to cultivate relationships with internal staff across VOA-GNY's various program sites and external partners.



Location: New York, NY 10020



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree required with 1+ years of professional experience in administrative support and fundraising operations; familiarity with the nonprofit sector a plus.
  • Strong project management skills, flexibility, creativity, and the ability to multitask.


  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and maintain meticulous records.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and donor management databases (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce).
  • Must be detail oriented which is crucial for data entry, record-keeping, and processing donations accurately.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a team and work independently when needed.



Development Assistant Principal Responsibilities:



  1. Donor Management:





    • Processing and entering donations and pledges into a donor database.
    • Preparing and mailing acknowledgement letters and other donor correspondence.
    • Maintaining and updating donor records and files.
    • Conducting research on prospective individual and institutional donors.





  1. Administrative Support:




    • Providing administrative support to the development team and leadership.




    • Managing schedules, calendaring, and arranging meetings.




    • Assisting with general office duties and maintaining files.
    • Support coordination of board books and meeting materials





  1. Fundraising & Events: Assist with execution of fundraising events by helping with preparation of fundraising materials, such as prospect packages.




  1. Reporting & Database:




    • Generating reports from the development database for appeals, events, and other efforts.




    • Ensuring data accuracy and integrity within the donor database.
