STS Technical Services is actively hiring a Validation Engineer (Product Engineering) to join our client's Global Powertrain & Electrification Validation (GPEV) team in Pontiac, Michigan. This is a hands-on role where you'll plan, develop, and execute system and component-level testing for advanced electrified propulsion and powertrain products, including batteries, drive units, power electronics, transmissions, and engines. This position is a great opportunity for a curious and motivated engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to help shape the future of powertrain validation. Engineers in this role also have the potential to grow into Lead System Test Engineer (LSTE) positions, gaining leadership skills while mentoring others and driving innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, methods, and automation to support validation sign-off
- Apply analytical tools in the validation process
- Operate within an Agile team structure, rotating through assignments in test execution, process innovation, and virtual validation techniques
- Work safely in state-of-the-art lab environments
- Investigate testing anomalies and generate detailed reports on findings
- Support root cause analysis and correction of system-level problems related to hardware validation
- Analyze and peer-review test results, contributing to data-driven efficiency initiatives
- Engage in production-intent programs and support designs through launch
- Coordinate with cross-functional departments, including systems engineers, lab integration engineers, and technicians
- Stay current on new technologies and competitive products
Education Requirements
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Math, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Chemistry
- Minimum of 2 years of post-graduation engineering experience
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in diverse team environments
- Ability to quickly learn complex system functions (engines, transmissions, electric propulsion, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with electrical, thermal, or chemical virtual modeling and simulation
- Familiarity with Inca and/or Puma
- Calibration and development experience
- Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making ability
- Experience with RESS (battery) durability and safety testing
- Working knowledge of Li-Ion battery cells, modules, and packs
- Proficiency in laboratory operations and test equipment such as dynamometers, load frames, power supplies, shakers, and environmental chambers
- Experience with ICE or conventional transmission development or validation
- Knowledge of reliability and durability calculations
- Adaptability to evolving program requirements
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams
