Job Details
Research Focus: The Gentner lab (Departments of Psychology and Neurobiology) takes an integrative, systems-level approach to understanding the sensory, perceptual, cognitive, and motor-control processes that underlie complex learned behaviors, focusing on the elaborate vocal communication systems of songbirds and humans. Current projects offer opportunities to study fundamental neural mechanisms tied to predictive coding and sensory-motor control of natural, temporal patterned, vocal signals, by combining rigorous computational, physiological, and behavioral methods to understand their implementation at the single neuron and population level. Qualifications: We seek highly motivated and creative candidates with a PhD or MD/PhD in the neurosciences or a related field, with the ability to work independently. Graduate-level experience in large-scale electrophysiological recordings in awake animals, computational neuroscience, or behavioral methods is required. Prior use of viral vectors and optogenetic tools is desired. Research Environment: The Neuroscience environment at UC San Diego is outstanding. Successful applicants will join a dynamic research environment, surrounded by other active labs, and that includes frequent interactions with other neuroscientists and opportunities for collaboration. How to Apply: Applicants should send a single pdfthat includes: (1) A brief cover letter/research statement describing research experience, interests and career goals, (2) CV, (3) Contact information for three references. Salary will be commensurate with experience and funded by multiyear federal grants. Positions are available immediately. Applications will be considered on an ongoing basis until all positions are filled. |
