Our program is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing enterprise infrastructure for hosting applications and solutions to include both on-prem and cloud. In your role as a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will be a valuable member of a DevOps team, designing and implementing cloud infrastructure and automation, leveraging your deep technical knowledge to support custom products that address complex business and scientific research challenges. Your ability to solve problems and collaborative approach will be instrumental in guiding the team towards scalable and efficient solutions that meet customers evolving needs. This position is full-time remote with travel as needed for special projects to the client site in Bethesda, MD. There can also be opportunity to work from the customer site in Bethesda, MD more regularly for those local to the area.

Responsibilities:



  • Work closely with your team and customers to design and implement cloud infrastructure solutions for hosting applications in AWS and Azure. Applications range from complex custom three tier web applications to simple ready-made software.
  • Use automation and codify best practices to enhance scalability, resiliency, and operational efficiency across cloud infrastructure. You will focus on streamlining system administration, reducing manual effort, and improving system reliability through scripting, configuration management, and infrastructure as code.
  • Use second order thinking to identify the short-, medium-, and long-term consequences of any solution and decisions to identify risks, understand impact, meet requirements, and continue to drive customer value.
  • Use your knowledge and experience with supporting application development lifecycles to recommend and engineer CI/CD pipelines to deploy code, conduct security scans and perform application health checks.
  • Develop clear and concise documentation and diagrams. Create slides and give presentations to engineers and stakeholders to explain the solutions that were implemented and the technical architecture. Coach and mentor your colleagues to strengthen team performance.
  • Participate in security audits by providing artifacts to address NIST 800-53 rev5 controls and support the requirement to maintain an Authority to Operate (ATO) for our cloud hosting infrastructure services.
  • Write code (Powershell, Python, Ruby, etc.) from scratch to solve customer problems.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or related field
  • 6+ years of experience as a cloud engineer with cloud and enterprise infrastructure technologies in a medium to large enterprise
  • Hands-on experience in Windows and Linux system administration, automation frameworks, patch management, monitoring, certificate management and data protection and backup approaches supporting all phases of the application development life cycle.
  • Hands-on AWS and Azure experience to include:

    • Deploying and configuring compute, storage, databases, and identity management (e.g., EC2, S3, VPC, Azure VMs, RDS, VNets, Entra ID, IAM)
    • Cloud networking and security knowledge, including Load Balancers, VPNs, firewalls, RBAC, conditional access, and encryption
    • Monitoring and performance tuning using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, AWS CloudWatch, and CloudTrail


  • Infrastructure-as-code experience to include experience with ARM templates, CloudFormation, and/or Terraform, writing custom modules from scratch, and helping guide and contribute to a large and growing codebase
  • Experience designing and building CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong scripting and automation skills with PowerShell, Bash, or Python
  • Experience using Git to manage shared software configuration code bases
  • Excellent communication and troubleshooting skills

The annual salary range for this position is $100,000.00 to $150,000.00.Actual compensation will depend on a range of factors, including but not limited to the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, certifications, location, other business and organizational needs, and applicable employment laws.
