Summary/ Objective:

The Purchasing Assistant's primary objective is to support the purchasing teams' mission of managing our largest physical asset, our inventory, and to ensure that the correct product quantity and mix is available in the distribution centers and at branch locations. The Purchasing Assistant will use their organizational skills to assist the entire team with routine product maintenance, PO maintenance, PO expedites, PO variances, and our warehouse team on shipping issues. They will also be responsible for working with our VMI (Vendor Managed Inventory) lines.

Essential Functions:



  • Monitor/update Product Buy Lines, Vendor Files, and Products as necessary
  • With input from the Sales Department and Purchasing Manager, analyze product activity and change product status (stock/non-stock) accordingly
  • Purchase products in ways that maximize profitability and support the Affiliated Distributors (AD) network: GMROI, turns analysis, discounts, and forward buying opportunities
  • Review and act on data within your daily, weekly, and periodic reports
  • Review and act on various queues like the PO expedite, Return Goods, PO review, PO variance and others
  • Establish solid working relationships with AD, Vendors, Rep Agencies, and Sales team
  • Check and respond to e-mails, voice mail and Eclipse messages continually throughout the day
  • Seek out and attend appropriate internal and external training
  • High degree of attention to detail

Competencies:



  • Understand assigned products/product lines, their applications and similar products
  • Strong analytical and computer skill (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) mandatory
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills necessary as well
  • Prior experience with purchasing, inventory, or distribution systems is preferred, as is experience in a wholesale environment


Supervisory Responsibility:



  • This position is not a supervisory role and does not have any direct reports.


Work Environment:

This job operates primarily in an office setting with the balance of the time split between visiting various job sites, customer sites, branches/warehouses, and attending meetings. This position requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, internet, smart phones, and photocopiers.

Travel:

This position does not include overnight travel. You will be expected to travel one to times a year.

Clearances and Certifications:



  • Background check is required
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status required.


Education and Experience:



  • Prior experience with purchasing, inventory, or distribution systems is preferred, as is experience in a wholesale environment
