WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR: THINK-ACT-BE SAFE - At Western States, we empower every employee, every day to work and promote a safe environment to ensure all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to all applicable procedures and standards. This includes maintaining clean/clutter free personal work areas and wearing the required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy. FULL SUMMARY The Yard Gate Attendant serves as the first point of contact at the equipment yard, greeting all visitors and directing traffic while enforcing safety policies. This role is responsible for inspecting loads, managing equipment movement records, and coordinating with yard staff. Must handle multiple tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment and support clean, secure, and well-organized yard operations that reflect Western States Equipment Company's standards.
- Greets visitors, communicates safety policies, and directs traffic in the equipment yard.
- Inspects incoming equipment and attachments for damage, abuse, and fuel levels.
- Uses Microsoft Dynamics AX, CAT Inspect and Return to Ready app to report equipment status and location.
- Records equipment movements and locations using Return to Ready and ERP systems.
- Communicates equipment activity to yard personnel for timely client and driver assistance.
- Manages Yard Shack communications via phone, email, intranet, and Microsoft tools.
- Supports yard security and report suspicious activity to the supervisor.
- Helps monitor yard access control and confirm security system activation at close of business.
- Inspects arriving and departing loads for safe loading compliance.
- Responds to inquiries professionally and promptly.
- Completes receiving inspections and final checks on customer equipment.
- Participates in monthly safety inspections and follows up on findings.
- Inspects returned machines for damage, fuel levels, and attachments.
- Processes Equipment Movement Records (EMRs).
- Performs other assigned duties.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and use of Microsoft computer products or other comparable systems required.
- Ability to gain knowledge of truck, trailer and equipment types.
- Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications provided by WSECO.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Consistent attendance and timeliness with the ability to work overtime with limited notice.
- Working within and promoting Western States' purpose, vision and values.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Minimum of one year construction industry or security industry experience preferred.
- Minimum of one year equipment operation experience required. (i.e., Forklifts, rigging and overhead cranes, etc.)
- Minimum of one year inventory and logistics required.
- Minimum of 6 months customer service experience required.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
- Ability to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, repetitive climbing stairs, reaching (including but not limited to above-shoulder reaching), repetitive bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. in accordance with Western States' Lifting Policy to include amount and approach.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
