Job Description

Manufactures sufficient quantities of quality materials at or below budgeted production costs in order to meet marketplace demand. Sets up blown film equipment operation feed, speed and temperature. Follows established procedures for operating various conventional manufacturing
equipment for tasks such as cutting, forming, gassing, loading, tapping, turning, inspecting, and pulling to fabricate, form or shape manufactured parts, tools or parts assemblies from raw materials. Selects and measures raw materials and parts to specifications to prepare for production processing. Resolves issues related to the organization's production, machinery, processing and/or packaging operations. Responsibilities are within Manufacturing/Operations Function as a generalist or in a combination of Disciplines.


The Extrusion Technician is responsible for the safe operation of blown film extruders to produce material that meets current quality standards at optimum rates and yields. This responsibility includes the performance of those tasks necessary to achieve proper extrusion operation:



  • Interpret and use production schedules
  • Unload rolls of tubing
  • Inspect raw and process materials for visual and measurable attributes
  • Responsible for quality of product
  • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning as required
  • Thread materials through the inventory
  • Perform quality checks on extruded materials and troubleshoot inconsistencies
  • Continually monitor quality throughout the extrusion operation
  • Assure materials and equipment are available in advance
  • Daily interaction with computer software including data collection
  • Communicate with Production Control as needed
  • Operate specialized equipment necessary for proper function of the extruders and mezzanine
  • Clean screws
  • Assist in receiving railcars of by pumping raw materials into silos
  • Operate radiation units in compliance with Cryovac, state, and federal regulations
  • Operate forklift to transfer boxes of raw materials as needed
  • Bale scrap material as needed throughout shift
  • Self-Manage and work harmoniously in team environment
  • Perform other duties as requested or needed to support the team environment
  • Perform Product and Facility Sanitation duties as required
  • Serve on a Team Resource team as needed


Shift: Night


Shift Premium Amount: $1.00


Pay Rate: $20.10

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent bending and lifting of items up to 40 pounds as needed (Lifting of items exceeding 40 pounds will require a two person lift)
  • Work with and around various solvents, corn starch and cleaning chemicals
  • Access all work areas to include frequent climbing on stands, ladders and stairs
  • Sit, stand, stoop, squat, bend, and reach overhead as needed
  • Stand on concrete floors for 12-hour shifts
  • Push/pull objects as needed
  • Drive a forklift (with training)
  • Utilize fine manipulation skills (including but not limited to the use of a utility knife, scissors, tape measure, typing, writing, and hand tools)
  • Must be able to distinguish colors for product quality purposes
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with customers, peers, and management at all levels
  • Must follow all safety processes and procedures
  • Utilize communication skills to effectively express both oral and written ideas individually or in group settings
  • Utilize interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups
  • Must be able to work overtime as scheduled
  • Must be able to work every other weekend
  • Able to work nights on 12 hour shifts

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Some work experience in any field
  • Working knowledge of computers and basic keyboarding skills
  • Process manufacturing experience preferred but not mandatory
  • Proven ability to perform basic math and measurement tasks
  • Blown film extrusion experience preferred but not mandatory
