Regular Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 12:00 AM - 8:30 AM Training Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (minimum first 90 days) A Brief Overview The Reading Room Coordinator in the Department of Radiology plays a crucial role in optimizing the efficiency and workflow of Radiologists. This position involves coordinating critical test results, supporting patient flow, and enhancing overall radiology operations. The coordinator ensures compliance with Protected Health Information (PHI) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines, processes second read order entry, and acts as a primary contact for customer service within the Radiology Department. The role also interfaces collaboratively across multiple teams and sites. What you will do
- Workflow Optimization & Radiologist Support:
- Facilitate efficient radiologist workflow to enhance productivity.
- Provide direct support to radiologists assigned to reading rooms, assisting with the interpretation of studies.
- Monitor diagnostic worklists and distribute urgent exams to Radiologists for interpretation.
- Support on-call Radiologists with system troubleshooting, problem-solving, and workflow performance improvements.
- With limited supervision, perform ancillary tasks that allow Radiologists to focus on their primary clinical functions.
- Case & Communication Management:
- Manage a large volume of incoming emails requesting STAT reads, records requests, image transfers to and from affiliate and outside hospitals/institutions, and notify the appropriate Radiologists.
- Expedite physician-to-physician communication to enhance patient safety and flow by assisting Radiologists in managing patient information and priorities.
- Utilize various communication tools and technology systems to minimize delays and increase efficiency.
- Manage cases from affiliate sites, domestic and international teleradiology locations, and outside hospitals.
- Health Information Management & Compliance:
- Act as the Health Information Management (HIM) liaison for releasing patient imaging to patients and families.
- Radiology Systems & Workflow Management:
- Utilize and maintain digital imaging systems, including Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), Ambra, Nuance Powershare, Radiology Information System (RIS), LifeImage, PICOM, Medicom, and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems: Epic, Epic Secure Chat, Epic ROI In Basket.
- Utilize Qgenda and also responsible to communicate errors or updates to Qgenda Schedule Coordinator.
- Other Duties:
- Maintain clean and clutter-free work environment in all Radiology Reading Rooms
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to meet departmental needs.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED Required
- Associate's Degree Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- At least one (1) year Hospital, Medical Office, or Related Setting Required
- At least one (1) year Radiology Department or Imaging Facility Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and radiology systems. (Required proficiency)
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and multitasking skills. (Required proficiency)
- Proficiency in IT systems, with the ability to maintain data accuracy and compliance. (Required proficiency)
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and task prioritization. (Required proficiency)
