Description

Position Summary:

Provides direct hospital diversion, jail diversion, and acute crisis services for Catholic Charities. The Diversion Outreach Professional provides face-to-face mental health diversion screenings, interventions, and assessments in addition to specific law enforcement first responder duties. This position is required to participate in the rotation for after-hours on-call coverage in addition to regular scheduled work shifts.

Responsibilities:

Law Enforcement & Trueblood Diversion



  • Acts as liaison between law enforcement agencies, local prosecutors, and assigned jails regarding recommendations for diversion referrals
  • Acts as liaison to behavioral health and other community social and support services for the continued care of individuals
  • Responds to law enforcement requests to assist with behavioral health referrals and conduct crisis assessments to determine appropriate response such as de-escalation, safety planning, or referring to the crisis team and Designated Crisis Responder
  • Screens referred individuals to obtain necessary information such as criminal history, competency evaluations, law enforcement contact, and behavioral health history to determine eligibility for diversion services. Reports status to appropriate prosecutor
  • In coordination with the Program Manager, assigns eligible clients to case management staff and determines appropriateness for caseloads
  • Conducts relative assessments, provides clinical interventions, and makes appropriate referrals to Catholic Charities programs and community resources for each Diversion client and referral from law enforcement
  • Provides clinical interventions such as motivational interviewing and solutions focused skills to clients as needed
  • Serves as primary contact for law enforcement referral follow-up
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, community partner meetings, and law enforcement meetings as requested or required


Follows and participates in organization programs and requirements



  • Completes necessary paperwork as required, meeting established timelines and making authorized entries in the medical record; maintains complete, accurate, and concise records and reports
  • Works to understand others on the team and is a cooperative team member who willingly helps others perform related jobs
  • Identifies and prioritizes issues, problems and concerns that need to be addressed and resolved. Works to facilitate resolution accordingly, including others in the decision-making process when appropriate to make independent, effective decisions using available information
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and educates individuals on matters requiring informed consent. Follows all procedures for release of information
  • Participates in supervision, multi-disciplinary team staff meetings, training, and specialist and psychiatric consultation
  • Ensures implementation of the agency's mental health guidelines and procedures for individuals served in the crisis system

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

Physical Requirements:

This position normally requires the physical demands of standing, walking, bending, lifting or performing other work requiring low physical exertion, talking and hearing on a regular basis to perform the job requirements. These physical demands are required up to 80% of the time. Position also requires ability to drive with adequate vision.

Non-Physical Requirements:

Qualifications for candidates hired at the MHP level: $84,800 - $95,400 per year



  • Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA), Marriage & Family Therapist Associate (LMFTA), Independent Clinical Social Work Associate (LICSWA), or Licensed Agency Affiliated Counselor (LAAC) in Washington State


Qualifications for candidates hired at the Licensed level: $90,100 - $100,700 per year



  • Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), Independent Clinical Social Work (LICSW) license in Washington State


Minimum requirements for all candidates:



  • Master's degree in social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, or a related field leading to eligibility for clinical licensure
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Valid Washington State driver's license and minimum required liability insurance for WA State
  • Must be deemed insurable as determined by Catholic Charities' insurance provider
  • Prior experience providing behavioral health crisis services preferred
  • Knowledge of behavioral health care delivery to adults and children
  • Knowledge of jail diversion and acute crisis service processes and procedures
  • Ability to work with others to accomplish objectives and achieve expected results
  • Strong crisis assessment and stabilization skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills for communicating with persons of all ages and staff
  • Ability to recognize cultural, racial and other issues that impact treatment, relationships, communications, and integrate that knowledge to work effectively with different cultures
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Uses a strength-based approach with staff and promotes a positive work environment
  • Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner within the community


Employment is conditional upon:



  • Being cleared by criminal background check and fingerprinting when required
  • Compliance with policy regarding Disclosure of Outside Employment for purposes of evaluating potential conflicts



Work Schedule:Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm with occasional rotating on-call hours

Wage Range:$84,800-$100,700 per year, depending on experience and credentials

Sign on Bonus:$25,000 (paid in 4 installments for a total service commitment of 51 months)
