Job Summary:

The Network Engineer will be the subject matter expert in network technologies including voice, data and wireless networks. This position will be instrumental in designing, developing, deploying and maintaining all aspects of the organization's network infrastructure, including LAN, VLAN, WLAN and WAN technologies and protocols. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion. In addition, the Network Engineer will lead and participate with the monitoring and optimization of all network hardware including virtualization technologies. This position is also responsible for providing 99.9% up time for all company production networks and the security relating to all network equipment and sites, globally.

Responsibilities/Essential Duties:




    Strategy & Planning:



    • Advise and collaborate with IT management to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
    • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping,processes, and service records.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery for other IT members, where necessary.


    Acquisition & Deployment:



    • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain company networks, including virtualization platforms, servers, routers, switches, controllers, UPSs, and other network hardware.
    • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain security appliances, site-to-site VPNs, and remote-access VPNs, etc.
    • Manage new and existing equipment - hardware, and software upgrades.
    • Maintain a firm security footprint for vulnerability and patch management.
    • Manage support from MSP's and ISPs, where necessary.
    • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast ofdevelopments in the networking industry.
    • Test release of technology to minimize user impact and ensure compatibility.


    Operational Management:



    • Configure networks to ensure optimized traffic shaping of data.
    • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas proactively, and reactively as needed.
    • Ensure network connectivity of all infrastructure components such as network devices, hosts, servers, workstations, telephony, and other network appliances.
    • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specification information.
    • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports to showcase a 99.9% up time of production infrastructure.
    • Participate in managing all network security solutions.
    • Perform server and security audits, system backups and restores, and perform Disaster Recovery processes, when necessary.
    • Perform Service Desk function as Level III administrator.
    • Provide 24/7 on-call support for network specific events.
    • Manage DR testing action items, pertinent to job duties specified by the IT Manager.
    • Travel up to 25% domestically.


    Basic Qualifications:



    • Bachelor's degree in computer science related field or 6 years of relevant work experience.
    • Certifications preferred, but not required - CCNP, CCDE, CCIE, MCP, Network +, etc.


    Preferred Qualifications:


    • 8+ years of proven experience designing, implementing, managing, and supporting enterprise level IP networks that include support of a heterogeneous distributed desktopcomputing environment, required.
    • Expert knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards, including routers, switches (layer 2/3), firewalls, remote access, DNS, DHCP and AD, required.
    • Proven experience and success with LAN, VLAN, WAN, and WLAN design and implementation, required.
    • Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and generalnetwork management best practices, required.
    • Expert knowledge of core routing and switching design principles, best practices, and relatedtechnologies.
    • Experience in implementing and managing voice over IP (VoIP) systems desired.
    • Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience.
    • Extensive application support experience with network monitoring and analysis software,
    • Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.
    • Customer focused service and people skills. Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
    • Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
    • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
    • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
    • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
