Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Technical Engineering Collaboration Specialist to work on our National Security Test Range for National and Homeland Security team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research Education Campus (REC), in Idaho Falls, ID, as well as our Test Range desert site facility with every other Friday off.

You will collaborate with other personnel to exchange information on new developments and seek technical opinions to resolve complex research issues related to energetics. The work will involve partnering with experts in various areas including arms, ammunition, and energetics, munition design and engineering, chem/bio defeat devices, advanced performance measurements for energetics, advanced initiation technologies, and material science formulations. In addition, employee will interact with project managers, principal investigators, and clients to understand their needs and ensure that customer expectations and contract deliverables are met on time and within budget. Employee role will also require them to design and fabricate various tools, fixtures, hardware, and test apparatuses as needed for different projects.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists to provide technical input on various tasks.
  • Function as a Subject Mater Expert to offer solutions to everyday issues for Facility Managers, Engineers, and Researchers. * Use experience and knowledge working with engineers and operators to troubleshoot and repair issues.
  • Use data analytic tools and experience to solve complex technical issues.
  • Use various software packages to develop intuitive graphical interfaces and/or models.
  • Prepare Technical Evaluations or Engineering Calculation Reports (ECAR) as applicable.
  • Provide technical input to support procurement activities of capital or other systems science equipment with respect to operation, reliability, and performance.
  • Provide technical direction on proposals and strategic business ventures to ensure the work is being executed timely and correctly.
  • Exercise independent judgment and understanding of Engineering/BEA/DOE requirements and priorities.
  • Develop relationships as needed to support work assignments if required technical inputs lie outside of normal expertise or education.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree in technical field from an accredited institution and at least 5 years directly related experience. May accept direct professional experience in lieu of education commensurate with at least 11 years of experience in place of degree.
  • At least 5 years professional/direct experience in each of the following:
    • Experience in Explosives & Munitions Handling
    • Planning & Execution
    • Risk Assessment & Mitigation
    • Classroom & Hands-on Instructing
    • Team Leadership & Mentoring
    • Project Planning
    • Precise Explosive Application
  • Master Breacher certification
  • Must be a US Citizen and have an active DOE "TS/Q" or equivalent DOD/DOJ security clearance.

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is $77,628 min - $159,228 max. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 or more pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required.
