Overview
The Assistant Cheer Coach is to be responsible for assisting the head coach with coaching, character development and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork while at USU Eastern.

Working with and directly under the director of athletics, they have the responsibility to: support student-athlete academic success, recruits prospective student-athletes following the university and athletic department mission and student-athlete recruitment procedures, and plans and directs the cheer team.

Responsibilities
  • The assistant cheer/game day coach must attend all home volleyball, women's and men's basketball games, along with other games that may require travel.
  • They will assist the head coach in warming up athletes, communicating between spirit squad director, coaches, and athletes, preparing throw gear, flags, signs, and megaphones, assisting in choreographing halftime routines, have ideas and ways to implement crowd involvement through cheerleaders, being the head coaches right hand in ensuring game days run as smoothly as possible.
  • Work with the athletic staff to ensure that each student-athlete meets the requirements to be eligible under the university and department guidelines.
  • Support the mission, philosophy and core values of Utah State University Eastern.
  • Recruiting and retaining top prospective student-athletes.
  • Organize, plan and execute travel arrangements within an organized and executing travel documentation and records.
  • Engage and promote team program through social media and in collaboration with social media staff members.
  • Engage in the community, and support the local athletics and businesses.
  • Engage in team fundraising in a manner that will allow the team to be at an elevated level, and assist with sponsorship opportunities.
  • Coach student-athletes in their growth and development in the sport with techniques and fundamentals of their position and sport conditioning
  • Provide an example of competitive but sportsmanlike conduct.
  • Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes on and off the court/field, and work well with students, faculty, staff, and community.
  • Maintains strong supportive relationships with the student athletes and their families.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be able to attend all home games
  • ACCAA Certification (Or the ability to obtain certifications upon being hired).
  • Have some previous coaching experience, and understand tumbling fundamentals.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Cheerleading, Coaching, or Collegiate cheerleading experience.
  • USA, UCA, or NCA staff experience
  • USA Cheer Collegiate safety and risk management certification
  • Experience in fundraising
  • Experience with coaching and spotting tumbling
  • Ability to spot college athletes on standing and running tumbling skills and stunting skills.
