Background/Purpose:
* The role involves building an integrated data management ecosystem to generate insights via Power BI and other tools.
* This is a leadership position supporting multiple departments (e.g., operations, engineering, supply chain, finance, commercial) with large-scale data projects.
Core Responsibilities:
Enterprise Data Architecture Leadership
* Serve as a key deputy to senior data leadership, overseeing large-scale projects involving 10-15 team members (including offshore resources) and providing strategic direction while mitigating risks.
* Provide leadership, assistance and support in transitioning to a cloud-based data ecosystem
* Develop and own the enterprise data architecture strategy, ensuring alignment with manufacturing business goals and IT roadmap.
* Define architecture standards, patterns, and best practices for data ingestion, integration, storage, and analytics.
* Lead the design of high-performance data environments that integrate ERP, MES, PLM, supply chain, and quality management systems.
Technical Solution Delivery
* Oversee the design and implementation of enterprise data platforms, including data lakes, warehouses, and real-time streaming solutions.
* Ensure architectural consistency across data engineering, analytics, and AI/ML initiatives.
* Lead data platform selection and optimization (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, AWS/Azure/GCP-based solutions).
* Partner with data engineering teams to build robust ETL/ELT pipelines supporting structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
* Hands-on experience required with Azure (3-5 years) and Databricks (2+ years) for data lake, warehouse, and processing implementations
Data Governance & Compliance
* Collaborate with the Data Governance team to ensure metadata management, lineage tracking, and data quality frameworks are integrated into the architecture.
* Ensure compliance with manufacturing industry regulations (ITAR, AS9100, ISO 9001, GDPR, CCPA) and corporate security standards.
Stakeholder & Business Engagement
* Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders across global time zones, translating technical details into business value through emails, meetings, and presentations.
* Translate complex technical concepts into clear business language for executives and functional leaders.
* Collaborate with operations, engineering, supply chain, finance, and commercial teams to define data requirements that drive process optimization and decision-making.
Project Delivery & Risk Management
* Lead end-to-end project delivery, committing to timelines and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
* Provide holistic overviews of data implementations (e.g., data lake setups) while capable of technical deep dives as needed
Innovation & Emerging Technologies
* Stay ahead of trends in data architecture, cloud-native manufacturing solutions, IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things), and AI/ML.
* Recommend adoption of new tools and technologies that enhance manufacturing analytics and predictive capabilities.
Mentorship & Technical Leadership
* Provide guidance to data architects, engineers, and analysts on best practices in modern data architecture.
* Conduct architecture reviews and ensure solutions meet both business and technical objectives.
Qualifications:
* 8-10+ years of progressive experience in data architecture and engineering (minimum 8 years), with demonstrated growth from individual contributor to leadership roles (e.g., managing 6+ team members on large projects).
* Industry Experience: Open to any, but prefer manufacturing/aerospace for domain knowledge.
- Acceptable alternatives: Healthcare, construction, chemical manufacturing, or industries with high data volumes (e.g., integrating OT/IT systems).
* Experience and proven delivery of enterprise-scale solutions integrating OT (operational technology) and IT systems.
* Deep expertise in data modeling (conceptual, logical, physical) and database technologies (SQL, NoSQL).
* Proficiency in data governance, MDM, and data quality frameworks (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Informatica MDM, SAP MDG).
* Hands-on experience with modern data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, Google BigQuery).
* Data platform engineering, Terraform, CI/CD.
* Familiarity with ERP (SAP, Oracle), MES, PLM, and quality systems data integration.
* Experience with streaming data architectures (Kafka, Spark Streaming) and IIoT platforms.
* Proficiency in data transformation languages and frameworks (SQL, Python, Spark, dbt).
* Exceptional communication skills, with proven stakeholder management in cross-functional, international settings.
* Strong project leadership and organizational skills, managing multiple high-impact initiatives simultaneously.
* Ability to balance strategic vision with tactical execution.
* At least 3 years in manufacturing, aerospace, healthcare, or data-intensive industrial environments preferred.
Education Requirements:
* Bachelor"s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; Master"s preferred.
Technical Skills (Core/Mandatory):
* Azure: 3-5 years of real exposure (4-5 preferred; 3-4 acceptable).
* Databricks: 2+ years.
* Deep expertise in data architecture, including data lakes, warehouses, ETL/ELT processes, and integration.
* Ability to provide holistic overviews of implementation processes (e.g., end-to-end data lake setup) rather than just low-level details.
