General Notes

This position may be required to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends. This job is not suitable for remote work and is expected to work regular on-site hours.

Purpose

To assist in management of playing surfaces, surrounding track, indoor practice facilities and playing surfaces throughout assigned athletics facilities. Providing building services, general field maintenance and care, and coordination of resources to support athletic operations.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing independent discretion and decision making, responsible for the day-to-day operation of Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Facilities and playing surfaces. Perform routine facility walkthroughs to ensure all areas are clean, organized, and maintained to a high standard of presentation.

  • Assist in daily maintenance of athletic playing surfaces, game fields and surrounding common areas, maintenance and upkeep of natural grass and synthetic sport fields and track surfaces, mowing, agronomic practices, irrigation, general landscape assigned tasks, string trimming, trash removal, etc. Responsible for all Soccer and Track specific markings and painting of natural grass surfaces. Assist in coordinating major projects such as track clean/painting, sod work, capital projects, irrigation repair, etc.

  • Conduct daily operation of sports turf maintenance equipment. Inspect all landscape equipment regularly to ensure optimal functionality and performance, identifying and addressing any necessary repairs or maintenance needs.

  • Responsible for planning, communicating and implementing preventative and reactive maintenance and repair on athletic playing surfaces (i.e. Shotput, discus, javelin, sand pits, etc.) to ensure proper ground repair and readiness for upcoming events. Check all Track/Soccer equipment during the offseason to ensure timely fulfillment of repairs and replacement for upcoming competition season.

  • Serve as the primary facility contact for day-to-day operations, and as the event-day contact for all set-up and tear down needs.

  • Ensure the facility remains secure at all times by maintaining locked access points and unobstructed entry/exit gates. Oversee the cleanliness and organization of all warehouses to support operational efficiency and safety.

  • Support all field setup and breakdown activities for practices, games, and events, including home football games. Collaborate with event staff on stadium game day preparations, including coordination with officials and managing field access. Serve as a point of contact for in-game stadium needs, monitor weather conditions during events, and communicate updates to the game manager and officials. Assist other field managers with campus-wide projects, tournament preparations, and field painting as needed. Help coordinate the arrival of the visiting team and band members to assist with visiting team needs.

  • Assist in Track/Soccer camps and clinics, as well as softball tournaments.

  • Coordinate detailed communication with Track and Soccer staff on scheduling and field/facility maintenance needs and scheduling.

  • Other facility/landscape duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High School Graduation or GED, one year of experience in athletic physical education facility or athletic equipment management and one year of experience in a supervisory capacity. Thorough knowledge of use and care of various athletic fields and turf equipment. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. More than one year of Facility Management either in professional sports or NCAA Division I institution. More than one year of experience in athletic physical education facility or athletic equipment management. More than one year of experience supervising staff members. Expert knowledge of field, turf grass management, agronomy and athletic ground care maintenance and prevention. Any Turf, Ground or Field related Certifications.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
