Chemical Engineering Tenure-track Faculty Position

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position.



With a history of over 100 years of innovation and creativity in research and education, the department is one of the premier chemical engineering departments in the country and represents one of seven academic departments in the nationally 7th ranked College of Engineering. The student body includes approximately 200 undergraduate, 80 Masters, and 100 PhD students. The collaborative faculty includes 21 tenure-track and 2 teaching-track faculty complemented by courtesy and adjunct faculty. Carnegie Mellon University is located in Pittsburgh PA, an affordable city to live in with outstanding cultural offerings, abundant green spaces, excellent public schools, and an easily accessible airport that offers many nonstop destinations across the US and abroad. Pittsburgh is the home of several other world-class research universities, a growing technology industry that includes Google and Duolingo, and has a major research hospital (UPMC) that our faculty collaborate with.



Applicants must have earned a PhD in a field of engineering or science closely related to chemical engineering. We are open with respect to rank and research area; applicants at the Assistant or Associate level with expertise in process systems engineering and connections to data science and/or machine learning, will be of particular interest. A successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the department's activities in research, education, and service. Exceptionally-well qualified applicants at the senior level with teaching experience and an internationally recognized record of research, may be considered. Applicants must have earned a PhD in chemical engineering or a field of engineering or science closely related to chemical engineering.

Interested candidates should submit applications electronically at apply.interfolio.com/174684, which should contain a cover letter, curriculum vitae and three statements: a statement of research experience and interests; a statement of teaching experience and interests; a statement describing past and potential contributions to professional service, particularly in STEM fields. Some examples of professional service include science and engineering outreach to K-12 students, leadership in graduate student organizations, organizing or chairing sessions at conferences, etc. The Search Committee will solicit names of references and their contact information after the initial review, and only for a subset of applicants. These applicants will be notified in advance before letters are requested.
