Summary

The Purchasing Agent plays a critical role in supporting operational success by sourcing and securing high-quality goods and services at optimal cost. This position is responsible for identifying product needs, researching suppliers, and negotiating pricing to ensure reliability, cost-efficiency, and quality. The Purchasing Agent must adhere to the purchasing guidelines while developing and maintaining vendor relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Research and locate products that meet operational requirements
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with vendors
  • Source and procure all goods including IT, construction materials (e.g., lumber, concrete, steel), tools, and heavy equipment
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities and negotiate orders to ensure cost-effective and timely delivery
  • Prepare and manage purchase orders from requisition through delivery and site distribution
  • Responsible for receiving product and entering delivery slips into ERP system.
  • Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors, port engineers and engineers to align purchasing with project needs
  • Monitor inventory levels
  • Resolve delivery delays, quality issues, and vendor disputes swiftly to avoid project disruptions
  • Build and maintain relationships with reliable suppliers and subcontractors
  • Maintain a preferred vendor list
  • Stay informed on market trends, pricing fluctuations, and availability of construction materials
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts, and delivery schedules
  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with legal, environmental, safety regulations and company internal purchasing policies and procedures
  • Monitor vendor performance
  • Support cost tracking and reporting for budgeting and financial planning
  • Other duties may be assigned


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities desired in candidates.



  • Minimum of 2+ years' experience in procurement or purchasing, in construction or construction related industry preferably
  • Familiarity with construction materials, equipment, or services is highly preferred
  • Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP), desired
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required.
  • 2+ years of ERP systems experience is desired
  • Must be able to perform in a fast-paced environment, and multi-task

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers, to grasp, grip, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may occasionally lift more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
