Overview

Responsible for strategic leadership and daily management of all non-coding HIM functions, including medical record integrity, release of information (ROI), document imaging and scanning, master patient index MPI accuracy, chart completion/analysis, central dictation and transcription oversight, duplicate medical record number reconciliation including merges and overlays, for Carle Health by providing high quality health information management services for all 8 Carle Health Hospitals and all Carle physician groups. Reviews and manages HIM vendor contracts. Serves as a resource for HIM topics.
Qualifications

Certifications:

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Health Information Management or
  • Bachelor's Degree: Health Information Administration

Work Experience:

  • Health Information Management Leadership - 5 years
  • Recent Enterprise Acute Care

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong leadership and management skills, with ability to motivate team.
  • Proven management and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of all major aspects of health information management functions.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulatory requirement for record documentation, payment and release of information.
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to medical record management including HIPAA privacy laws.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate with all levels in the organization.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including but not limited to: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with EPIC, OnBase and HIM Technologies
  • Experience managing HIM operations in a multi-hospital system.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate HIM functions across inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory settings.
  • Directs enterprise-wide document management processes, including scanning and indexing and quality assurance.
  • Oversee chart completion process, delinquency management, and physician documentation compliance.
  • Manage ROI vendor and turnaround performance.
  • Monitor and manage data integrity (duplicates, merges, overlays)
  • Ensure timely and accurate transcription process.
  • Assures technical expertise of the staff through continuing education and career path development
  • Provides recognition of skills and talents, and succession planning.
  • Collaborates with IT, clinicians, business partners and senior leadership
  • Prioritize data driven projects, optimize EHR
  • Provide quality information to support various initiatives including privacy and information security.
  • Analyzes regulatory information and materials for impact of the hospital environment
  • Identifies affected functions and works with them to implement changes.
  • Collaborates with providers and other departments
  • Ensure accurate and complete documentation of patient diagnoses, treatments and outcomes.
  • Oversees the development, review, and revision of department policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and manages medical records compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Has strong understanding of healthcare compliance and regulatory standards including HIPAA, CMS, DNV or JC.

  • Leads the Enterprise Document Management Committee.
  • Represents HIM in EPIC and Informatic Committees
  • Provides leadership, vision, and management to assigned departments.
  • Sets department strategic direction and goals alongside Vice President of HIM
  • Develops appropriate tactical plans to meet them
  • Manages reviews, survey results, HR actions within the HIM Operations team hierarchy.
  • Builds onboarding plans and ensures team productivity.
  • Reviews and manages vendor contracts for HIM activities such as coding, auditing and correspondence.
  • Participates in MPI conversions and works closely with the HIM IT analysts
  • Optimizes the system workflow for HIM.
  • Possesses strong understanding of healthcare analytics and project management skills.
  • Ensures dashboards, reports are updated timely and support positive results.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations in HIM
  • Works and works with managers/supervisor/coordinators to achieve productivity goals.
  • Builds effective relationships with HIM team, providers/physicians, peers, management.
  • Subject matter expert on HIM Operational impacts during system upgrades, EHR migrations, acquisitions or enterprise projects.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $53.08per hour - $91.3per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
