University of New Mexico's College of Education and Human Sciences
Special Education Assistant Faculty Position in Applied Behavior Analysis
(ABA)

The University of New Mexico, College of Education and Human
Sciences, Department of Special Education, invites applications for an
Assistant Professor Tenure-Track Faculty position
in Special Education, with experience and expertise in Applied Behavior
Analysis (ABA).

Responsibilities:

The
successful candidate will be expected to (a) provide direct supervision to
students completing their ABA Field Experience/Practicum, (b) teach courses in
ABA and related areas, and (c)
conduct scholarly work related to ABA in the Special Education Department.
Commensurate with their background and expertise, this individual will also
contribute to the coordination of supervised fieldwork in the behavior analysis
program. In addition, the successful candidate will advise students and serve
on capstone and dissertation committees. We are especially interested in a
candidate who can contribute to the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico through their teaching, research, and
service. Successful candidates must be committed to working in the rich and
varied cultures of New Mexico.

A complete application will include:

  1. A signed letter of intent that includes: (a) a detailed statement of qualifications explicitly addressing each of the Minimum and Preferred Qualifications and (b) information about how they will cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
  2. A complete and up-to-date curriculum vitae.
  3. Transcripts of all graduate coursework (readable, unofficial copies will be accepted).
  4. BCBA certification number.
  5. The names, addresses, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses for three to five professional references.
  6. One professional publication or presentation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Terminal degree in Special Education or a closely related field by August 2026.
  2. Certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or BCBA- D.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Robust and current preparation in (a) ABA principles, strategies, and ethical practice; (b) special education and/or working with individuals with disabilities.
  2. Excellence or potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the area of behavior analysis.
  3. Extensive experience in behavior analytic work in school, community, and/or clinical settings with individuals with disabilities, including experience working with individuals with a wide range of behavioral support needs.
  4. Prior experience supervising students in ABA Field Experience/Practicum placements or other related experiences.
  5. Thorough formal preparation and current involvement in research activities, such that the successful candidate will be able to establish an agenda of active research in the area of applied behavior analysis.
  6. Prior experience working in an accredited university training program in ABA.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
