Description

The Program in Jewish Studies at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in Jews of the Islamic World, to begin July 1, 2026.


Successful candidates should be prepared to engage actively with diverse students across the liberal arts and will have interdisciplinary interests equipping them to offer a range of courses that enhance students' understanding of Jewish experiences and identities globally beyond the West. We seek an innovative scholar-teacher with a passion for undergraduate teaching and an active research agenda who will bring new energy and ideas to our Jewish Studies program. The course load is four courses per year including both broad survey courses and advanced courses related to the candidate's field of specialization. Ph.D. in Jewish Studies or another relevant field is expected by the time of appointment. Candidates from groups under-represented in Jewish Studies are encouraged to apply.
