JOB DESCRIPTION

USC Athletics is looking to hire a Director of Photography to join our staff and student community of 600+ individuals. This role is responsible for leading our photography team, shooting live events, managing photoshoots, maintaining our photo archive and contributing to our overall creative team.

Additional requirements include a mastery of action and still photography, leadership capabilities and a digital design skillset.

Reporting directly to the Chief Creative Officer, the Director of Photography will work in collaboration with the creative department as well as marketing, development, administration and the individual sports programs. The ideal candidate will possess a master of photography, possess an independent creative vision, be able to see a project through from conception to execution and have a flexible skillset that includes photography, video and design as well as an understanding of the software needed to succeed in those mediums. Knowledge of and experience working in higher education preferred. Understanding of the unique culture and needs of college athletes preferred.

This position serves a large student and staff population, must demonstrate a commitment to improving outcomes for a variety of populations, and is expected to contribute to the program's demonstrated commitment to non-discrimination and equal opportunity for all. This is an exempt position with work expected to include weekends, nights and travel, but the hours are flexible.

Roles and responsibilities to include:

  • Hiring and leading our team of photographers

  • Shooting live events

  • Conceiving and executing photoshoots

  • Maintaining our photo archive

  • Contributing to our overall creative team as needed

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree (master's degree preferred) and two years of experience (four years preferred). Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.

  • Proficient with Adobe Photoshop and Photo Mechanic.

  • Experience working in higher education and/or a sports related field ideal.

In addition, the successful candidate must also demonstrate, through ideas, words and actions, a strong commitment to USC's Unifying Values.

Salary Range

The annual base salary range for this position is $110,000 - $115,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer alignment, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Plans, designs, directs, supervises, and coordinates all activities involved in the development and implementation of complex
multimedia projects. Manages multiple projects at a time. Directly supervises all assigned subordinate staff. Provides work
guidance, direction, and leadership for project team members. Oversees the production and delivery of compelling digital
content, within prescribed deadlines. Maintains a close relationship with stakeholders to gain thorough knowledge of
requirements for assigned digital media projects. Plans, organizes and oversees the creation of comprehensive digital content
archives. Assists in the planning for future business. Monitors, analyzes and reports on web and social media engagement.
