Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience/training.
- Follow-up Commercial payer billing Experience. History of successful payor denial appeals.
- Experience with commercial, government and third party payors. Including current regulations, time limitations and procedures.
- Ability to type for efficient entry of billing information and charges into the billing computer system and to prepare various forms of correspondence.
- General Intermediate knowledge of medical terminology, sufficient to correlate billing data to actual charges and to determine appropriateness of payor actions.
- Ability to establish a good rapport and professional working relationship with all departmental personnel, management and outside parties. Readily assists co-workers. Maintains appropriate interdepartmental communications.
- Ability to express self in all areas of communication (verbal, written, non-verbal); utilizes effective listening and questioning techniques.
- Good phone skills, including identifying self and unit when answering/using the phone; delivers messages, and/or refers phone calls to the appropriate person; forwards all information, as required. Handles telephone information requests with courtesy, accuracy and respect for patient confidentiality.
- Independent decision-making skills to determine appropriate course of action in billing accounts. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
- Math skills to accurately add, subtract, multiply and divide.
- Ability to effectively handle a heavy workload, pressures of deadlines, and meet production standards.
- Adaptability and flexibility to changes in policies, procedures and management.
- Ability to file in alphabetical, numerical and chronological order.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to use computer technology effectively to perform billing and collection functions.
- Good verbal and written communication skills. Documents and reports clearly and concisely. Conveys instructions, directions and information appropriately. Ability to write effectively and to compose internal and external correspondence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/trainng
- Prior professional medical billing experience a plus.
- General Intermediate use of CPT-4, ICD-10 and HCPCS coding systems.
- General knowledge of current regulations, time limitations and procedures of outside agencies and insurance companies to effectively process claims.
- General knowledge of accounting to effectively understand patient accounts.
- Knowledge of EPIC Resolute Professional Billing System a plus.
