Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
The
UNCW Athletics Department is seeking a licensed Master's level mental health professional to provide part-time, contract-based clinical services to student-athletes. This role focuses on enhancing mental health, performance, and overall well-being through individual counseling, group/team workshops, well-being programming, and collaboration with athletic staff. The ideal candidate will have experience working with collegiate students/student-athletes and a strong understanding of the unique challenges they face.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide confidential, culturally competent mental health counseling to student-athletes.
- Conduct mental health assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Collaborate with athletic trainers, coaches, sport performance staff, and admin to support holistic care.
- Facilitate workshops and psychoeducational sessions on topics such as stress management, performance anxiety, identity development, and resilience.
- Assist with annual student-athlete mental health screenings.
- Devise relevant mental well-being initiatives and programming for student-athletes.
- Provide psychoeducation to coaches on pertinent topics to student-athlete well-being.
- Maintain clinical documentation in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
- Refer student-athletes to campus or community resources when appropriate.
- Participate in case consultations and departmental meetings as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
- Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Active licensure in the state of North Carolina (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT).
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience, preferably with adolescents or young adults.
- Experience working with student-athletes or in a collegiate setting strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of NCAA regulations and student-athlete culture.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
