Labor Educator Position Overview This temporary, part-time, grant funded position will run from the date of hire through the termination date of the grant, March 31, 2027, and is contingent on the availability of grant funds. The position will perform work consistent with the scope of the grant, such as assist with recruitment activities with community leaders for upcoming community-based Apprenticeship Readiness Programs (ARPs), make presentations to Registered Apprenticeship Programs, schools, and community groups to promote University of Iowa Labor Center Quality Preapprenticeship Program, and help graduates of prior ARPs gain entry to and succeed in Registered Apprenticeship training programs. The educator will also be responsible for developing and updating data systems to track progress toward grant deliverables. Required Qualifications Master's degree or higher in labor studies/industrial relations or other relevant field such as law, economics, sociology, labor history, or adult education, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Demonstrated teaching competence in core areas of labor education and demonstrated ability to design, write and produce high quality labor education materials. Demonstrated ability to conduct applied research relevant to Iowa workers and their organizations. Prior program coordination and administration experience. Demonstrated commitment to working collectively with, and ability to relate to, Iowa workers and their organizations. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel and work weekends and evenings. Desirable Qualifications Direct experience in collective bargaining, labor/employment law, and/or worker/union representation. Areas of expertise and teaching that complement and expand on those already possessed by current staff. Fluency in Spanish. This position is eligible for remote work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of employment. |
