Accountant - District Office
FUNCTION: Perform accurate and timely reconciliations of bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and other financial accounts within the general ledger. Prepare and enter journal entries to reflect financial transactions and ensure all entries are accurate and complete. Investigate and research variances, resolve issues, and make corrections to maintain accurate records.
Essential Job Functions:
- Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations including bank reconciliations. Identify and analyze variances and communicate and resolve accordingly.
- Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring financial records are accurate and completed in a timely manner. Provide check and deposit registers for annual audit.
- Update daily banking worksheet. Research, monitor, and communicate deposits made by ACH, EFT, and wire transfer to internal stakeholders.
- Prepare journal vouchers from source documentation and upon request.
- Identify and submit Unclaimed Property to State Comptroller. Research rules and regulations from each state's reporting website. Identify outstanding checks that have reached dormancy period.
Additional Job Functions:
- Assist with Fixed Assets activities including coordination of the bi-annual inventory and as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to demonstrate College values.
- Strong knowledge of general accounting principles.
- Understand and perform a variety of accounting tasks.
- Excellent computer skills and experience using spreadsheet, charting, and other software tools, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to utilize an automated accounting system (Banner) and generate ad hoc reports
- Ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as various statistical calculations.
- Possess strong working knowledge of computer technology as it relates to accounting.
- Be self-directed and proactive, work independently with broad guidelines.
- Ability to respond flexibly and positively in all circumstances, and to work calmly under pressure.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills by listening effectively, transmitting accurate information and actively seeking feedback.
- Be dependable/reliable and follow through on commitments, producing timely work to required or higher standards.
- Possess strong human relationship skills and the ability to achieve a collaborative working relationship with a large group of team members
- Ability to analyze and solve problems.
Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
Required Experience:
- Three (3+) years of experience in accounting
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with accounting in a government or college setting.
