A Brief Overview Responsible for accurate and timely data abstraction, entry, and submission to the state cancer registry of all cancers and related conditions at CHOP and its satellites. Trains, supervises, and mentors the Cancer Registrars. Assuring that the deadlines for submission of cases are met and for performing quality control of registry data. Pediatric tumor registry preferred.
What you will do
- Assures accurate and timely abstraction, entry, and submission to the state cancer registry of all cancers and related conditions at CHOP and its satellites.
- Assumes responsibility for performance of Registry in all aspects.
- Ensures that all Pennsylvania Cancer Registry (PCR) deadlines are met by ensuring that information is abstracted and submitted on a timely basis.
- If delays in data entry threaten deadline, develops plan to prevent missing deadline and informs Divisional management.
- Understands changing PCR requirements; serves as primary liaison with information technology staff (internal and external) to ensure that tumor registry database is compliant.
- Perform quality control of registry data.
- Develops and maintains QC plan, modifying it over time as appropriate.
- Performs QC audits on a regular basis.
- Develops correction plan for problems identified on audit.
- Perform case finding, data abstraction and entry according to the requirements of the state cancer registry and the Division of Oncology.
- Serves as working supervisor, doing the work of a tumor registrar as well as supervision of the TRs and the functioning of the Tumor Registry.
- Supervise the Tumor Registrars (TRs)
- Supervise the TRs in all their responsibilities, including case finding, abstraction, data entry, and on-time data submission.
- Train and mentor the TRs
- Conduct annual performance evaluation of the TRs
- Interview candidates for TR positions; select appropriate candidates; manage performance issues with TRs through the disciplinary process.
- Establish, modify as needed, and improve if possible case finding procedures so that all cases of cancer and other state reportable conditions at CHOP and its satellites are identified in a timely manner.
- Document in the Registry Manual case finding, abstracting, quality control and other procedures and update as needed.
- Establish/modify/improve procedures to identify cases at satellites and to abstract required data on those cases.
- Establish/modify/improve as needed procedures for accurate and efficient data collection and entry on all cases of cancer, other state reportable conditions, and other patients seen in the Division.
- Develop/modify the specific edits and checks to be used to look for inconsistencies, incompleteness, and errors.
- Run queries and generate reports to perform the edits and checks.
- Ensure that errors and inconsistencies are checked and corrected.
- Implement processes to reduce the error rate.
- Develop and prepare regular and ad hoc reports on clinical activity as reflected in the tumor registry database, demonstrating an excellent lay understanding of the clinical program and good analytical skills
- Assist with data collection for COG studies, as needed.
- Maintain accurate record in database of files stored off-site.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED - Required
- Bachelor's Degree Medical related field - Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- At least five (5) years of Tumor Registry or related experience - Required
- Experience in developing and running reports from the TR database and performing quality control on those reports - Required
- Experience with abstracting medical data from the medical record - Required
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to express or exchange information over the telephone and in person (Required proficiency)
- Ability to type and write legibly (Required proficiency)
- Must be able to operate standard office equipment such as a copy machine and fax machine (Required proficiency)
- Must operate the Hospital's computer systems (TDS/IDX) (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Clinical Research Associate (CCRA) - Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) - upon hire - Preferred

$61,360.00 - $78,230.00 Annually
