About the Job

This is a 1-year temporary position, with the potential of renewing for a second year dependent upon available funding and the employee's successful job performance.

This position has primary responsibilities in the areas of system maintenance and end user support for our enterprise-wide catalog & curriculum management system, Coursedog, and data quality and reporting in the Office of the Registrar. The BA2 is the professional Business/Systems Analyst for Coursedog-technical maintenance, managing release notes and upgrades, applying technical configuration changes, and vendor and internal ASR team support and collaboration; and is also a member of the Data Quality & Reporting team that
supports adhoc and scheduled queries, PeopleSoft (PS) data production support to all campuses, quality assurance of all student records data in PS, and ensure current business processes are optimal and make recommendations for improvement.

Academic Support Resources supports hybrid and flexible working arrangements. Work arrangements are determined in coordination with supervisors depending on the nature of the unit and position. The arrangement for this position will be determined upon hire between employee and supervisor. This is an annually renewable position that can be extended for up to two years based on budget availability.

Essential Job Functions

Coursedog system maintenance and support: (50%)

  • System maintenance to include: technical maintenance; review/provide guidance on product release notes; advise/apply technical configuration changes.
  • Lead technical development and testing for system changes and configurations.
    • Develop test plans, write test scripts, and execute tests.
    • Describe defects and work closely with vendor and/or developers to resolve them.
    • Submit and monitor vendor support tickets when issues arise
  • Evaluate, triage, and respond to Coursedog Team Dynamix (TDX) requests to support end user requests.
    • Lead the troubleshooting and rapid resolution of production bugs and issues.
  • Manage relationships with multiple stakeholders and users including collegiate, administrative, and registrar leadership staff on all campuses, internal ASR teams, and the vendor.
  • Ensure data and reports meet service expectations and are available for end users.
  • Manage and maintain business process documentation in both technical and non-technical language so that business owners, process owners, and end users can fully understand the business logic and process.
  • Contribute as a subject matter expert in delivering improvements to student records processes, technical architecture, and user experience in Coursedog.

Data quality & reporting: (50%)

  • Create and run queries to ensure that academic record data is accurate. Occurrences range from: daily, weekly, monthly, and end of term. Maintain documentation of data results that have been reconciled.
    Queries to be monitored for accuracy and updates based on new data and/or requirements exceed 150.
  • Evaluate student record data and processes to determine any limitations in terms of accuracy, reliability or usability. Design and implement creative solutions when system issues impact business needs.
  • Evaluate and triage OTRQA Team Dynamix (TDX) requests. These can range from data integrity issues identified that need to be reconciled, query requests from units across all U of M campuses for information ranging from running existing queries or creating new queries, and student records data requests.
  • Develop and run processes to support student records operations to include (but not limited to): grade bracketing, topics classes roll forward, student milestones, degree posting, deletion of term activation.
  • Maintain in depth knowledge of major business processes within the Office of the Registrar (OTR) in order to function as an academic records expert for OTR staff.
  • Alert management to data patterns of concern and recommend topics for ongoing training and staff development.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with at least two years of professional relevant experience or a Master's degree.
  • Development experience with SQL or another programming language.

Preferred Qualifications (Core Competencies)

  • Experience with a student information system (PeopleSoft preferred).
  • Experience with a curriculum management system (Coursedog preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of requirements definition techniques.
  • Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate technology concepts effectively with technically proficient and non-technically proficient individuals.
  • Ability to sufficiently understand and analyze data to recognize data anomalies and problems and suggest corrective actions.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $73,500 - $76,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
