JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Summary
Northcentral Technical College (NTC) is seeking a dedicated College Veterinarian to join our Agriculture Center of Excellence. This unique opportunity allows you to combine hands-on veterinary medicine with teaching, mentorship, and leadership in herd health management.

As the College Veterinarian, you'll provide compassionate care for our dairy herd and other animals, guide faculty and students in best practices, and play a key role in advancing veterinary education within our Veterinary Technician program. You'll also serve as a leader on the Institutional Animal Care and Usage Committee (IACUC), ensuring compliance and the highest standards of animal care.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

As the College Veterinarian, you'll provide essential medical care to the animals at NTC's Agriculture Center of Excellence while helping prepare the next generation of veterinary professionals. In this unique role, you will:

Provide Veterinary Care & Leadership

  • Examine, diagnose, and treat animals, including performing surgeries, wound care, vaccinations, and prescribing medications.

  • Work with faculty to deliver Veterinary Technician courses and ensure content reflects current industry practices. If serving as an adjunct instructor, may develop or update course materials.

  • Guide faculty, staff, and students in proper veterinary practices and the use of medical equipment.

  • Lead humane care protocols, including euthanasia, in compliance with the USDA Animal Welfare Act.

Teach & Mentor

  • Facilitate student learning through classroom, lab, and clinical activities, as well as mentoring inside and outside of class.

  • Develop and deliver new or updated courses in the Veterinary Technician program to meet evolving industry needs.

  • Support diverse learners and engage in professional development to enhance teaching and learning.

Collaborate & Build Partnerships

  • Work closely with the Veterinary Technician and Farm Operations teams to strengthen academic and farm-based learning.

  • Support partnerships with K-16 institutions, community organizations, and industry leaders.

  • Assist in planning continuing education, workshops, and outreach events for Agriculture Programs.

Contribute to College & Program Growth

  • Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and accreditation processes.

  • Serve as the College Veterinarian on the Institutional Animal Care and Usage Committee (IACUC).

  • Provide backup support for the Dean and Farm Operations as needed.

  • Take a leadership role in developing strategies for farm operations and agricultural education at NTC.

Minimum Qualifications Required
In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Education: Professional Degree

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Experience: 5 Years

Additional Experience:

  • Broad experience with both small and large animals, including herd health management of dairy cattle (animal health checks, medications, breeding, nutrition, milk quality, and production).

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, veterinary office procedures, animal pharmacology, animal diseases, clinical practices, and clinical pathology.

  • Dairy Beef Quality Assurance certification.

  • Experience in teaching and working with diverse student populations is strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency in the use of technology, computers, and software to support both clinical and instructional responsibilities.

Ability to perform complex operations in a variety of job-specific systems, understand functionality to apply advanced functions, manage/customize and create calculations with data.

Ability to understand complex concerns and formulate solutions; communicate professionally with various audiences in different situations.
