Sr. Technician - Process
General Summary: Provide technical support by performing a wide variety of analyses required for control of product and process quality. Incumbent is also responsible for performing all quality assurance tests and procedures in a precise, accurate and efficient manner.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform daily testing requirements.
- Accurately sample and measure chemical and physical properties on all types of raw, in-process, and finished products and environmental systems following established laboratory guidelines.
- Proficient in all process and quality lab testing procedures and performs as required.
- Effectively document, interpret and communicate analysis results within the context of the production facilities to maintain product quality.
- Independently operates lab equipment, prepares and orders necessary supplies, and shares lab maintenance duties with other laboratory personnel. Responsible for minor repairs on laboratory equipment, facilities, and preventative maintenance.
- Assumes responsibility for the calibration and maintenance of all assigned laboratory equipment. Must be able to effectively troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed.
- Review existing Standard Operating Procedures for adequacy, and modify SOPs in accordance with established document control procedures.
- Assist with tasks in other departments and be available for support of operations as needed, including outages. Coach hourly workforce on quality matters as needed.
- Assist with inter-laboratory testing and tracking of testing trends.
- Provide testing support for the verification of various online analyzers such as: moisture sensors on the paper machines, consistency transmitters, and conductivity meters.
- Demonstrates good judgment in solving routine issues, based on a basic understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures.
- Complies with proper safety practices and utilizes required safety equipment to minimize personal risk to hazards.
- Must be able to work overtime and some weekends as needed and accept Technical Department call duty.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Biology or equivalent working experience. Also open to candidates with vocational training or technical certifications in mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation fields, especially those with hands-on experience in lab equipment maintenance or industrial troubleshooting.
- Minimum one year laboratory experience associated with testing of the Kraft process or equivalent, three to five years preferred or experience in equipment troubleshooting, calibration, or maintenance in an industrial or lab setting.
- Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel)
- Must demonstrate knowledge of various lab equipment such as: Atomic Absorption units, radioactivity gauges, titrators, and bomb calorimeters.
- Must be familiar with and able to apply basic scientific principles to make observations, perform calculations, record results, develop conclusions and demonstrate good judgment in solving routine issues. Must be detail oriented and able to move between dissimilar tasks with ease.
