This roles home location is Shields MFG location in Tualatin, Oregon, which is an industry leader and Value-Add, climate-controlled production facility specializing in CNC machining and complex mechanical/optical/laser assembly including clean-room environments. The Data Engineer will play a critical role in supporting all areas of the company by enabling reliable, scalable, and secure information systems. Date Engineer

We are looking for a highly motivated Data Engineer to join our growing Data Governance & Analytics team. In this role, you will work closely with senior engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to design and deliver scalable data solutions that power critical business insights and innovation. If you are passionate about building robust data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and leveraging cutting-edge cloud technologies, this is the role for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines and dataflows that adhere to enterprise governance and quality standards.
  • Implement data modeling, normalization, and metadata management practices to ensure consistency and usability across data platforms.
  • Leverage Azure Data Factory (ADF), Databricks, and Apache Spark to process and transform large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
  • Integrate data from diverse sources using RESTful APIs and other ingestion methods.
  • Apply advanced SQL expertise for querying, performance tuning, and ensuring data integrity (both T-SQL and PL/SQL).
  • Collaborate with business teams and data governance groups to enforce data quality, lineage, and compliance standards.
  • Contribute to the Agile development lifecycle, participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Partner with data architects, analysts, and business leaders to design and deliver solutions aligned with organizational goals.
  • Provide technical expertise in Python and other scripting languages to automate data workflows.
  • Promote best practices in data governance, security, and stewardship across the enterprise.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in data engineering with exposure to data governance frameworks (preferably GCCHI).
  • Strong proficiency with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Apache Spark, and Python.
  • Solid expertise in SQL (query optimization, performance tuning, complex joins, stored procedures) across T-SQL and PL/SQL.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL pipelines, dataflows, normalization, and data modeling.
  • Familiarity with RESTful API integration for data ingestion.
  • Experience contributing to Agile teams and sprint-based deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, metadata management, and governance best practices.
  • Practical experience automating workflows with Python scripting.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with data cataloging, data lineage, and master data management (MDM) tools.
  • Knowledge of Azure Synapse Analytics, Power BI, or other BI/visualization platforms.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices for data pipelines.
  • Exposure to data privacy regulations (CMMC, NIST 800).
