Job Summary The Personal Lines Market Underwriter, working under close supervision, is responsible for reviewing and analyzing insurance applications, generating profitable growth, and serving as the primary Personal Lines contact for an assigned group of agencies. The role pursues leads for new business pipeline, proactively engages and builds relationships with agencies in an assigned territory, reviews and approves new business within assigned authority level, analyzes books of business for assigned agencies and provides excellent customer service to agency partners. Job Responsibilities
- Generates profitable growth and makes sound underwriting decisions for assigned agencies within clearly established guidelines. Ensures that policies are written in compliance with state and federal regulations regarding insurance policies.
- Serves as the primary contact for assigned agencies and serves as representative on cross-functional teams.
- Works closely with agents and brokers to ensure that policies are written correctly and in accordance with company guidelines, provides guidance on policy language, endorsements, and modifications to coverage.
- Works with other underwriters and managers to develop underwriting acumen, industry knowledge and overall understanding of Westfield business operations.
- Reviews insurance applications submitted by agents to determine whether the applicant meets the company's underwriting guidelines and assesses the risks associated with insuring them.
- Evaluates large losses and refers to the Leader for approval, performs future status evaluations and documents for appropriate action, sets up and issues non-renewals, cancellations, and direct notices.
- Uses various data sources to determine appropriate premiums and coverage levels, such as loss history, driving records, and risk exposures.
- Identifies and completes required analysis to develop, deliver, and monitor agency business plans for key agencies.
- Identifies potential risks associated with insuring an individual or property and recommends ways to mitigate those risks, such as adding endorsements or modifying policy language.
- Provides excellent customer service to agents, answers questions, and resolves issues.
- Develops and maintains relationships with agents and brokers to promote the company's products and services. Coordinates with assigned agencies as needed, evaluates and prepares relevant information while ensuring proper procedures and processes are followed.
- Understands and applies the company's agency compensation philosophy including commissions, ACCP/supplemental compensation, and custom compensation options.
- Stays up to date on industry trends, market conditions, and competitor intelligence to identify areas for growth or where the company may need to adjust its underwriting practices.
- Travels occasionally in order to support essential functions of the role. This may involve traveling on short notice or other daily driving duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in Personal Lines Underwriting.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Finance, Economics, or a related field and /or commensurate experience.
Location
- Hybrid - defined as working three or more days per week in the office
Licenses and Certifications
- Working towards or possess a CPCU, AU, CIC, API, and/or AINS designation.
