The Plant Manager provides functional direction and leadership to East Granby Operations to achieve company goals related to profitability, quality, customer service, shipments, and cost reduction. Manage resources assigned to Production Planning & Scheduling, EH&S, Purchasing, Receiving/Warehouse/Shipping, Maintenance, Process/Plant Engineering, Production work centers, and plant personnel.

Essential Duties:

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe working environment in compliance with OSHA and other regulations.

  • Translate business goals into actionable production plans with clear metrics.

  • Lead capacity planning, resource allocation, and plant expansion projects when needed.

  • Oversee daily manufacturing operations, ensuring compliance with production schedules, safety standards, and quality requirements.

  • Drive cost-reduction initiatives without compromising safety or quality.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative culture of accountability, safety, engagement, and continuous improvement.

  • Develop plans, programs, and proposals to maintain a consistent manufacturing process capable of continuous improvement (e.g., work center staffing plans, capacity/load reports, department budgets, manufacturing systems to analyze variances, labor and inventory reporting).

Collaboration
  • Liaise with Sales and Customer Service to meet delivery deadlines.

  • Resolve business issues/conflicts related to direct reports, other functional areas, inter-plant problems, customer concerns, and issues arising with outside agencies.

  • Provide support to HR in matters relating to employment, compensation, benefits administration, labor relations/negotiations, organizational development, and statutory compliance.

Budget & Reporting
  • Prepare and manage the production budget, including labor, materials, and capital expenditures.

  • Monitor KPIs such as OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), scrap rates, downtime, and on-time delivery.

Note: These are the general duties required to fulfill the Plant Manager's role, not a detailed description of all work required. New responsibilities may be assigned to meet the changing demands of the business.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Management, or related field.

  • 10+ years of manufacturing leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a plant manager role.

  • Experience with a unionized workforce preferred.

  • Proven experience in high-mix/low-volume, fast-paced production environments.

  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement tools.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. Proven track record of talent development.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead cross-functional teams.

  • Wire & Cable/Job Shop experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and variables that impact success, including:

    • Capacity planning and scheduling.

    • Quality control/assurance disciplines.

    • Measuring direct/indirect labor performance.

    • Planning and controlling inventory.

    • Material procurement.

  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills.

  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; must be a team player and effective at building collaboration across departments.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work long hours in a sedentary role (sitting, computer work, reviewing charts/graphs, repetitive motions).

  • Ability to lift and move objects of at least 25 lbs.

  • Ability to collaborate with manufacturing team members in a noisy production environment.

  • Must follow safety guidelines and wear required PPE when onsite.
