The Position

The Opportunity

The Issue Advocacy & Alliances team is responsible for education, activation and advocacy with third party stakeholders in Washington, D.C., state capitals and local districts. Prioritization of legislative, policy and advocacy goals is based on key business priorities and conducted in conjunction with business leaders throughout company departments and functions.

The Director will be responsible for initiating and executing comprehensive advocacy strategies in states or local districts that advance issue priorities and support Genentech's mission to bring innovative treatments to patients. The individual will be responsible for implementing an outreach strategy with key third party stakeholders that showcases the company as a science-driven and patient focused business whose priority is to shape the policy landscape through credible engagement. The Director will monitor and analyze the external landscape for policies, trends and activities in key districts and markets and will be responsible for communicating the business impact to key external and internal stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with local third party stakeholders including, but not limited to, patient organizations, trade groups, medical societies, community organizations and other influencers, that will distinguish the company as a leader in the biopharmaceutical space while proactively advancing company objectives.

  • Create and implement comprehensive engagement and activation strategies through engagement with key internal business partners and third party stakeholders.

  • Integrate Genentech's outside consultants effectively in the development of relationship and activation strategies.

  • Educate and engage with internal colleagues to ensure that business decision-makers have a strong understanding of the political and policy landscape in Washington, D.C. and state capitals and can be activated to provide the employee voice on issues of importance.

  • Focus areas will include core healthcare issues relating to reimbursement, value, patient access and population health.

  • Cultivate unified philosophy through work with others in external affairs in pursuit of overarching objectives.

Who you are

  • You have a Bachelors degree.

  • You have a deep understanding of the legislative and political process at the state and federal levels and 8+ years of experience working with third party stakeholders to advance policy priorities.

  • Demonstrated experience in healthcare policy and expertise in issues of critical importance to the company and its business.

  • Experience working with a variety of stakeholders, including trade associations and coalitions, and ability to proactively drive objectives by effectively bringing individuals together.

  • The candidate must possess an ability to set clear objectives and effectively implement comprehensive external affairs strategies that include coalition building, messaging, material generation and other means necessary in order to meet defined goals.

  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed, up to 30%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong relationships with key healthcare stakeholders in the region.

Location: This role supports the North-East region (including the following states: ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, PA, OH, WV, KY.). The candidate must reside in the region.

The expected salary range for this position is $156,700/yr to $291,100/yr . Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
