Kratos is seeking a Technical Writer to support the Navyis AN/SPY-1 Organic Sustainment Capability Prototype OTA. This role will focus on developing, editing, and maintaining technical documentation that supports harvesting, assessment, repair, and sustainment of radar subsystems. The Technical Writer will work closely with subsystem subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, and program managers to ensure complex technical data is accurately translated into clear, concise, and compliant documentation. This position is critical to enabling long-term sustainment of the AN/SPY-1 radar fleet through 2065.

Key Responsibilities



  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including harvesting plans, operating procedures, training guides, repair manuals, and system specifications.
  • Translate technical information from engineers and SMEs into accurate and user-friendly documentation for diverse audiences.
  • Ensure documentation adheres to Navy, DoD, and Kratos standards, including configuration management and security requirements.
  • Manage version control, coordinate document reviews, and incorporate feedback from cross-functional teams.
  • Prepare and edit program deliverables, milestone review materials, and customer-facing documentation.
  • Support development of lifecycle sustainment artifacts, ensuring alignment with DoDI 5000.88 and Navy sustainment processes.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews for clarity, consistency, and technical accuracy across all written products.

Required Experience:

Required Qualifications



  • Bacheloris degree in Engineering, Technical Communication, or related discipline; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical writing experience in DoD, Navy, or defense contracting environments.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD documentation standards and DoD technical publication practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with document control systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance (or ability to obtain).



Desired Qualifications



  • Experience with radar, electronics, or complex Navy systems documentation.
  • Prior exposure to AN/SPY-1 radar systems, AEGIS Combat System, or Above Water Sensors programs.
  • Experience with structured authoring (SGML, XML, S1000D) and content management tools.
  • Familiarity with NSWC Crane processes and Navy sustainment documentation requirements.



Additional Information



  • Travel: Up to 10% (support to NSWC Crane, industry teammates, and program reviews).
  • Period of Performance: Immediate start aligned to Phase 1 of the OTA, with continuation opportunities in Phase 2 prototyping.
  • Reporting: Reports to the Indiana Site Director with matrixed support to the SPY-1 Program IPT.
