STS Technical Services is hiring a Principal Powerplant Engineer in Hebron, Kentucky. This role supports technical operations by ensuring the safety, airworthiness, and reliability of aircraft through expert engineering oversight of powerplant systems.
Position Summary
The Principal Engineer reports to the Manager of Powerplant Engineering and is responsible for the engineering data, instructions, documents, and technical support that economically ensure the safety and reliability of aircraft within the following ATA chapter subjects: 24, 26, 30, 36, 49, and 70-80.
Major Job Accountabilities
- Project development, management, and implementation for repairs, modifications, or alterations
- Serve as the technical point of contact on assigned subject matter for troubleshooting assistance
- Issue instructions and documents to support operations and return aircraft to service in a safe and timely manner
- Review OEM Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives (ADs), and Notices of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRMs) for implementation, initiating required engineering documentation as needed
- Provide support on investigations for safety, regulatory, and reliability matters
- Monitor fleet performance and initiate corrective actions and improvements to maintain fleet health
- Liaise with manufacturers, maintenance representatives, MRO facilities, outside engineering departments, regulatory personnel, and other agencies
- Establish component repair and build specifications to enhance dispatch reliability in accordance with budgetary and regulatory requirements
- Manage cross-functional and cross-departmental projects within technical subject scope
- Administer the Engine Condition Monitoring Program
- Review the powerplant portion of the Aircraft Maintenance and Inspection Program and initiate program changes or updates to maintenance documents
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering, or other technical equivalent
- Minimum of 12 years of Airline, OEM, or MRO experience
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant license preferred
- Proficiency in technical analysis and working knowledge of FAA regulations and certification requirements
- Expert knowledge of commercial turbine jet engine technical details or airline M&E systems including TRAX and airline processes
- Ability to execute assigned tasks including EOs, troubleshooting, manual oversight, and vendor communications
- Excellent communication skills with ability to mentor and train other engineers
- Strong multitasking skills
- Familiarity with aircraft engine systems and components
- Knowledge of turbofan and turbine engine operation, dynamics, performance, and build
- Experience in failure analysis or root cause engineering, including metallurgical analysis
