*Manager Inpatient Coding/Full Time/Hybrid

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for management of the coding and documentation processes across the multi-facility integrated healthcare delivery system; Provides direction, support and management for inpatient coding and education to the staff, clinical and ancillary departments and physicians regarding appropriate clinical documentation, coding rules and regulations, case mix index (CMI), analysis and reimbursement guidelines. Actively supports and monitors revenue cycle processes. Builds and maintains strong working relationships between the system clinical documentation specialists, coders, and medical staff. Serves as a liaison to the system wide Clinical Documentation Improvement Program. Oversees the system inpatient coding team maintaining a high level of coding quality and compliance for all Henry Ford Hospitals.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Health Information Management or related field or in lieu of degree five (5) years of management or supervisor experience in a position that demonstrates leadership ability, initiative, and assertiveness.
  • Five (5) years inpatient coding experience.
  • Communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with staff.
  • Analytical ability necessary to conduct basic research, analyze and interpret data, evaluate processes, and propose improvements.
  • Ability to manage, coordinate, and lead simultaneously.
  • Ability to estimate time frames and meet projected deadlines.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership to departmental personnel and to develop and maintain a wide variety of internal and external cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to understand and lead change.
  • Demonstrate experience in all areas of medical record functions, including privacy & compliance regulations.
  • Goal oriented, exceptional interpersonal skills, change management and political skill.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • RHIA, RHIT or CCS certification
