Position description

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Department of Environmental Toxicology offers a temporary lecturer position to teach ETX 030 "Chemical and Drug Use and Abuse". This course presents an overview of drugs of use and abuse in society. It focuses on the pharmacology and toxicology of therapeutic and recreational drugs, how we are exposed to information about these drugs by our popular news media, and how we can use principles of pharmacology and toxicology to be informed consumers (of chemicals and news). There are no textbooks or prerequisites for this course. Course assessments include Practice Assignments and Surveys, Collaborative Quizzes, news article critiques, a final exam, and a final take-home reflection. The class meets for 1 hour and 20 minutes biweekly (Tuesdays and Thursdays) during Spring quarter, where the first 40 minutes of each class meeting is devoted to lecture and the remaining 40 minutes to active learning activities. The course is supported by a Teaching Assistant. Office hours are typically held for one hour once per week or by appointment.

QUALIFICATIONS: Appropriate professional degree, e.g. doctorate or master's degree (or 30 units of graduate coursework); demonstrated teaching ability; a developing record of scholarly or professional achievement in an area of expertise related to the subject area of the course.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Temporary lecturers are selected to fill specialized positions that require professional as well as academic expertise.

SALARY: A reasonable estimate for this position is $70,977-$73,107. The % of annual salary will be determined by the Instructional Workload Credits worksheet based on enrollment, lecture and discussion hours.
