Responsible for facilitating external testing in a professional, confidential, and caring manner for patients where Bryan Heart (BH) physicians provide an overread for testing done outside of a Bryan facility. Works closely with BH providers, external hospitals and their clinical and technical staff to ensure timely order entry, daily reading assignments to the reading physician(s), and ensures that performing locations receive copies of the physician's overreads (the final interpretation). Develops and maintains effective and professional communication (verbal and written) with internal and external organization professionals facilitating the needs of the department. PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2. *Maintains up-to-date knowledge and ensures full compliance with physician reading privileges for all partnering facilities, both within and outside Nebraska. Takes responsibility for adherence to all applicable organizational policies and procedures. 3. *Submits chart corrections and cancels/modifies orders as needed. 4. *Proactively detects and analyzes order barriers. This includes identifying issues such as poor-quality images, incomplete or illegible paperwork (including demographic information), and missing critical order details (e.g., ordering provider, diagnosis, location, and date of service). 5. *Serves as the primary contact for multiple external entities to coordinate study overreads for external testing and promptly identifies and resolves any ordering barriers. 6. *Receives external testing orders and transcribes them into EPIC using Bryan Heart's external order entry workflow. 7. Assigns daily external studies to the reading physicians. 8. Scans study paperwork to the external reading palette(s). 9. *Performs order corrections via chart correction and cancels/modifies orders when study reports require corrections. Reassigns the amended study to the reading physician for a new signature and ensures the performing location receives an updated copy. 10. Responds appropriately to urgent and emergent situations and documents as necessary (e.g., stat read requests). 11. Complies with HIPAA and maintains confidentiality in matters related to patients, families, staff, and providers. 12. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. 13. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned. 14. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned. (Essential Job functions are marked with an asterisk "*". Healthcare certification or licensure (Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant) preferred. Experience in medical transcription or a similar setting preferred. |
