The core purpose of a Maintenance Planner/Scheduler (MPS) is to transition a maintenance organization from a reactive, "fix-it-when-it-breaks" model to a proactive, "prevent-it-from-breaking" one. The MPS are the logistical hub for all maintenance activities, ensuring that work is not only done but is done safely, efficiently, and at the optimal time in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO13485 - cGMP environments as well as maintain all records as required for regulatory compliance. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Work Order Management:
- Prioritization and Planning: Reviewing incoming maintenance requests to determine validity, priority, and required resources. This involves defining the scope of the work, creating detailed work plans, and estimating labor hours.
- Resource Coordination: Ensuring that all necessary resources-including parts, tools, equipment, and skilled labor-are available before a job begins. This requires close coordination with the storeroom, procurement, and technicians (Internal & External).

Documentation and Reporting:
- Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of maintenance history, procedures, technical manuals, and other documentation within the CMMS. This provides a valuable historical record for future planning and analysis.
- Performance Tracking: Generating reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) like work order backlog, schedule compliance, and equipment uptime. These reports are used to measure success and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Continuous Improvement:
- Process Analysis: Reviewing completed work orders and technician feedback to refine job plans, eliminate inefficiencies, and improve maintenance procedures.
- Problem-Solving: Proactively identifying and resolving potential delays or bottlenecks in the maintenance workflow, such as material shortages or scheduling conflicts. They play a key role in ensuring that maintenance is as efficient and cost-effective as possible.

Education and Experience
BS/BA degree in a related technical field with 4 years' experience in industrial maintenance/construction or planning and scheduling; OR associate's degree in a related technical field with 6 years' experience in industrial maintenance/construction or planning and scheduling OR 8 years' experience in industrial maintenance and/or construction. Balancing Competing Demands: The primary source of complexity is the constant need to balance the conflicting priorities of different departments. Unpredictable Events: The best-laid plans are often disrupted by unplanned breakdowns or emergency repairs. Information Management and Analysis: The role is data intensive. A planner is responsible for managing a vast amount of information from various sources, including work order requests, equipment history and specifications, spare parts inventory levels, labor availability and skill sets, safety requirements and procedures and production schedules. Communication and Influence: A planner must influence and persuade people without a direct reporting relationship. They need to build trust and credibility with technicians, supervisors, and production managers to get their buy-in on schedules and work processes. Technical Knowledge: The planner must possess a solid understanding of the equipment, maintenance procedures, and the facility's operational processes. This knowledge is crucial for creating accurate and effective job plans that technicians can follow. A solid foundation in hands-on maintenance work A strong aptitude for using a CMMS Organizational and communication skills to effectively manage a complex workload.
