Job Summary

This resource will lead a team of data analysts that builds, maintains and improves analytic solutions to help drive data driven solutions across the enterprise. Using a combination of health care insurance business knowledge, data analysis skills, and the ability to communicate complex issues to senior leadership, this role will partner with leadership across the organization to ensure that the analytics team is meeting the organization's needs now and into the future. This role will develop a data analytics roadmap by creating work standards which enhance the data self-service capabilities and ability to produce consistent and action data the leadership team.

The Data Analytics Manager leads the Data Science and Informatics team at the Public Health Institute of Denver Health (PHIDH). This role manages and prioritizes team projects, provides technical and administrative guidance, and supports collaboration with other data analytic teams and the Denver Health IT department. The manager oversees staff including data scientists, epidemiologists, evaluators, and analysts. Key responsibilities include mentoring team members, interpreting clinical and business needs, and delivering reports, dashboards, and data products using SAS, SQL, Tableau, and Epic databases. Epic certification and strong expertise with relational databases and these tools are required.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for leading a team of data analysts in support of enterprise wide data analytics projects, ensuring consistent high quality outputs are delivered by the team. (10%)
  • Maintain a Data Analytics Strategic Plan in alignment with business objectives which will be used to inform team priorities and other Information Management initiatives. Oversee execution of Data Analytics Strategic Plan focused on long-term strategy balanced with current data analysis projects. (10%)
  • Develop standard work to ensure consistent output from the team that includes intake through to delivery our final products to the leadership team. Develop a standard process for capturing requirements, defining goals, tracking status and reporting results of analytic initiatives to key stakeholders. (10%)
  • Coordinate with the managed care leadership team on the creation and maintenance of an inventory of data analytic initiatives that includes prioritization, scope and timing. (10%)
  • Partner with Information Management technical team and other owners of potential data sources to drive the future data sources requirement, in support of data requirements for analytic initiatives. (10%)
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand the issues in defining analytic requirements and provide guidance and suggestions for the team to best meet their needs. (10%)
  • Translate business requirements into an approach to query, organize, and analyze data to meet the business objectives (10%)
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and present actionable recommendations to senior leadership team based on the documented findings, including but not limited to the creation of standard enterprise dashboards and report sets for ongoing maintenance. (10%)
  • Maintain and actively look for new relationship with outside resources that can augment the analytic objectives of the plan such as the Denver Health Hospital decision support team, the Center for Improving Value in Health Care (CIVHC) and others. (10%)
  • Evaluate and recommend to IS leadership third party analytic services and software to support business objectives where appropriate. (5%)
  • Maintain an awareness of analytic best practices and work to mature the analytic capabilities of the Managed Care organization through training of the team, development of standards and toolkits for the team to leverage. (5%)

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

Work Experience:

  • 4-6 years data analysis experience Required and
  • 1-3 years leadership or supervisory experience required.

  • 1-3 years Experience leading cross functional initiatives through prioritization, overall coordination, development, and status-reporting of analytical projects.

  • Strong business acumen, an ability to quickly understand business processes and operational concepts, knowledge of data analysis methodologies with the ability to apply them in an efficient manner to meet business requirements.
  • An inquisitive problem solver with the technical skills to query a variety of data sources.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to thoroughly document and communicate methods and results.
  • Ability to persuasively present ideas and results.
  • Ability to create financial and statistical analysis, models, or reports to summarize results and projections.
  • Managed Care operations and clinical knowledge preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, Visio)
  • Data query ability with MS SQL Server
  • Extensive experience using Business Intelligence tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.) preferred
