ROLE SUMMARY:
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Director, Assistant Controller to join our organization. Reporting to the VP, Corporate Controller, you will be responsible for all aspects of the accounting team's daily operations, month end closes, and execution of related internal controls. You will lead a team of approximately 20 accountants, including the general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, and equity administration. This role works closely with leadership in Operations, Legal, HR, SEC Reporting, Technical Accounting, SOX Transformation, and FP&A.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
OPERATIONAL ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL CLOSE


  • Lead the entire operational accounting function, including cost accounting / inventory, cash, prepaids, fixed assets, accounts payable, accruals, equity, payroll, insurance, and benefits.
  • Direct oversight of the general ledger, including detailed reviews of the balance sheet and income statement, account reconciliations, intercompany activity, eliminations, journal entries, analytics, and properly documented SOX controls.
  • Review all estimates and judgements used in establishing period ending financial statement adjustments.
  • Oversee the monthly preparation of the worldwide consolidation. Ensure accurate and on time delivery of U.S. and international reporting packages and related support to the SEC Reporting team and FP&A.
  • Support all related disclosures and the preparation / review of footnote schedules delivered to the SEC reporting team.
  • Oversee the team's preparation of all external audit requests throughout quarterly reviews and the annual audit.
  • Administer our global equity program and payroll, and build relationships with HR, Legal, and external parties to maintain program compliance and provide data for related tax filings.



INVENTORY AND COST ACCOUNTING


  • Oversee the cost accounting team and all inventory and COGS accounting / processes, including review of inventory valuation and standard costing, variances (PPV, Material, Labor and overhead), cost rolls, cycle counts, and the annual physical.
  • Develop and recommend the quarter ending E&O reserve and any necessary updates to valuation methodologies (such as L&O adjustments).
  • Deliver monthly metrics that enhance the company's review and understanding of gross margins and inventory balance movement.
  • Coordinate with supply chain, manufacturing, and distribution/warehouse leadership to identify and resolve issues in areas such as production, purchasing, receiving, and shipping.



PROCESS IMPROVEMENT AND PEOPLE LEADERSHIP


  • Mentor and develop a team of accounting professionals (direct and indirect reports), providing guidance and professional growth opportunities that fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the Head of SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting to implement accounting operations that support and adhere to technical accounting conclusions.
  • Collaborate with the SOX Transformation team to review, and maintain comprehensive internal controls, policies, and procedures over areas within your responsibility.
  • Support the ERP Transformation Team by preparing the accounting organization for the launch of a new ERP.
  • Identify and drive process improvement initiatives within the internal reporting process and close cycle. Advance automation / continuous improvement by building scalable, repeatable processes, documentation, and policies.
  • Lead the accounting operations integration of acquired entities into the business.
  • Take on additional accounting responsibilities, management of consultants, and ad-hoc projects as the role advances and the company scales.



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with 14+ years of experience or a Master's degree in accounting or finance with 12+ years of experience.
  • 10+ years of accounting experience with U.S. listed publicly traded companies and progressive advancement into a Controllership role.
  • 6+ years of managerial experience leading a team of accountants.
  • 4+ years overseeing payroll and equity administration.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Global experience in the life sciences industry.
  • Expertise in cost accounting.
  • Exceptional knowledge of US GAAP and SOX compliance requirements, with a strong understanding of the information needed to support an SEC reporting team.
  • Demonstrated ability to:

    • Grow a global accounting operations function, navigating the complexities of doing business domestically and internationally, and in a life sciences setting.
    • Innovate and stand-up modern ERP enhancements and automation (robotic process automation, etc.).
    • Lead and develop a team, providing effective coaching and development


  • Experience with Oracle products, especially Fusion.
  • CPA / CMA license.
