Job Title: VTIS Process Machine Operator I


Shift- 12-hour nights 2-2-3 pattern.



Summary:


This position is responsible for processing a variety of soy based liquid products through written and verbal instructions. Ensures the quality and efficiency standards are being met through reduced scrap loss and yield improvements. Follows all GMP and PPE requirements for the safety of others and oneself. Effectively communicates verbal and written information relevant to the position.



Essential Functions of the Job:



  • Coordinate process set-up of production, CIP and sanitizing a variety of mixing and processing equipment to be completed in a timely manner. Maximizes the quality of products produced and the efficiency of the department.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation.
  • Perform routine maintenance as directed on all the process equipment. This includes but not limited to valves, replacing "o" rings, homogenizer packing and oil, air lines, sterile air filters and gaskets. Document in written form parts needed to be ordered.
  • Relieve other production team members for breaks and absences as required
  • Perform a variety of quality checks to assure standards are met
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic to moderate operating difficulties involving area equipment
  • Accurately prepares and maintains all area paperwork
  • Fill and drain Tower water in the correct sequence and turning on the fans.
  • Verify steam and air pressure gauges as it relates to the process and their importance.
  • Be able to adjust the steam valve for the steam injector as required.
  • Understanding of the flow process for both processors and surge tanks.
  • Other duties, as assigned.



Key Accountabilities:


Safety:



  • Follows all plant safety rules
  • Reports all accidents to the production supervisor or H.R. representative.
  • Serves an active role in the plant safety program by attending safety meetings, participating in safety inspections and reporting any potential safety hazards to the safety committee or Production Supervisor.


Quality:



  • Adheres to all Quality Assurance System guidelines
  • Follows SOPs to make process adjustments, to ensure the manufacturing of high-quality soy-based products.
  • Responsible for compliance with the HACCP program
  • Identifies all critical control points understanding their functions it relates to the process.
  • Accurately prepares and maintains processing area documentation.



Housekeeping:



  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Cooperates with other shifts and the management team in housekeeping endeavors



Communications:



  • As a member of the Production team, ensures the effective shift communication and teamwork with the other operators occurs each scheduled shift
  • Maintains effective communication with members of the support group



Teamwork and Training:



  • Promotes and contributes to the development of teamwork among production team members
  • Assist in coaching and training employees as requested by the management team



Personal Development:



  • Continuous improvement of knowledge of the Aseptic processor.



Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • None.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • 0 - 3 years' experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to run both processors, CIP, and monitor all surge tanks.
  • Must be able to do maintenance on valves, surge tanks, and processors.
  • Must be able to prepare and maintain accurate paperwork.



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Working knowledge of business, computers, and math.



Knowledge and Skills:



  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve moderate to complex problems associated with the processors and related equipment.
  • Ability to analyze a situation and make a quick and accurate decision based on the facts provided.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Ability to work with minimal to no supervision.
  • Ability to express thoughts / ideas for improving the process operation within the realm of the guidelines.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to set priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Understand terminology related to the process and surge equipment.



Additional Considerations:



  • Location: This position will be at our SunOpta Plant in Modesto, CA.
  • Shift: This will be a night shift position on a 2-2-3 pattern.
  • Pay Rate: $28.00/hour
  • Shift Differential: $2.00/hour for working 12-hour night shift on a 2-2-3 pattern.
  • Travel Expectations: None.
  • Work Environment: This position will be in a manufacturing / production environment.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
