Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant

Inova Alexandria Hospital is looking to add a COTA, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant to our growing team. This candidate will adhere to department policy regarding the timeframe, appropriate form, and content of written rehabilitation documentation. Communicate effectively with patients, family, medical staff, care team members, students, supervisors, and outside contacts. This is a PRN opportunity to work alongside our Therapists and assist in our patients care and recovery.

Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant Job Responsibilities:


  • Documents clearly, concisely, and legibly within established time frames, (e.g. allows other therapists to continue treatment, allows for interpretation by payers and supports reimbursement) as evidenced by chart review and team feedback.
  • Contributes to educational and training efforts of department/clinic, (e.g. in-services, students, CPR, new hire orientation, and QI/PI) as evidenced by program/clinic-specific documentation.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and knowledge about department expenses and revenue (e.g. supplies, equipment, billing, and staff resources) used in the department, as evidenced by team feedback and observation.
  • Selects appropriate treatment methods for patients' diagnosis, age group, and physical and emotional status, as evidenced by observation and documentation.
  • Recognizes the need for alterations in the treatment method and overall plan as the patient advances or regresses while acting accordingly, as evidenced by observation, documentation, and team feedback.
  • Notifies primary PT/OT of non-routine changes in the treatment situation, discharge complications or other circumstances that require reassessment or staff guidance, as evidenced by team feedback.


Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant Minimum Requirements

Certification - Basic Life Support thru the American Heart Association

Licensure - Occupational Therapist Assistant Licensed Upon Start

VA license required

Experience - Graduate of approved certified occupational therapy assistant program

Education - Associates degree from accredited certified occupational therapy assistant program.
