Job Summary

#CA-SS

The playroom assistant has the skill and ability to coordinate and oversee all aspects of the assigned pediatric play space(s). They are knowledgeable in the planning and supervision of pediatric patient activities, special event planning, the assessment of patient play needs and the provision of developmentally appropriate toys and activities. This role also includes supervision of unit volunteers, maintenance and cleaning of toys and play equipment and providing continuity for pediatric patients in the play spaces and at bedside.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Human Development or related field of study.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with well children in a group setting.
  • Knowledge of child development and theory.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with parents, pediatric patients, and siblings
  • Organizational skills to prioritize work assignments an efficient manner meeting deadlines and managing frequent interruptions.
  • Knowledge of program development and sustainability
  • Ability to effectively develop, implement and evaluate assigned departmental programs
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Commitment to excellence in patient care.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates accountability and professionalism.
  • Adapts to change in a positive, professional, and productive manner.
  • Basic computer skills.

The Child Life & Creative Arts Therapy Department works with patients, families, and the medical staff to provide services that meet the unique psychosocial and developmental needs of each child and family. They focus on the emotional well-being of hospitalized children and their families to reduce anxiety and promote coping.
