JOB SUMMARY

The Shop Welder is responsible for performing a full range of journeyman-level structural welding procedures. Including various metals, electrode selection, welding processes, and quality control specifications in accordance with job requirements. This position estimates work including labor and material requirements for internal and external clients. Work will require ability and willingness to weld and fabricate projects on and for mobile equipment as well as other varied and small projects. Equipment types include, but are not limited to oil field service trucks, cranes, construction equipment, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Follow directions from the Foreman and QC department.

  • Prepare material for welding, cutting or fabrication.

  • Diagnosis failure mode and identify the correct repair requirements.

  • Weld in compliance with applicable codes and standards.

  • Must be able to fabricate custom work from a professional plan or improvised drawings.

  • Maintain records of work orders and materials used.

  • Have knowledge of hand & power tools, as well as hydraulic, air & electric shop equipment.

  • Ability to diagnosis equipment failures in accordance with original equipment manufacture's specifications.

  • Mentor and coordinate the work of co-workers as appropriate.

  • Use of Respiratory equipment, local and portable exhaust ventilation systems (LEV), as well as Power Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR), along with half-mask and full-face respirators.

  • Be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and be a self-motivated worker.

  • Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

  • Other duties will be assigned to this position as needed.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • A valid (U.S issued) Driver's License is required.

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.

  • The ability to work 84 hours a week on a 3x3 rotation is required.

  • A North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification is required.

  • A current Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), or Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) in accordance with American Welding Society D1.1 is required.

  • At least five (5) years of experience as a Shop Welder is required.

  • Proficient and extensive experience in all standard metal welding techniques is required.

  • Proficient and extensive experience in proper structural repairs on mobile and heavy truck construction equipment is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Five (5) or more years of experience working in a Construction or Industrial setting, the Petrochemical or Oil and Gas industry, on the North Slope, and/or in other Arctic environment is preferred.

  • A valid (U.S issued, Alaska compliant) Class B CDL is preferred.

WORKING ON THE NORTH SLOPE

While working on the North Slope of Alaska, your lodging and food will be provided to you. All camps provide warm meals and options to grab a quick lunch or snack from the spike rooms. Rooms vary from single status to shared rooms where your roommate may work the opposite shift. Wi-Fi and Internet is free and available within the camp. Services vary depending upon where you are staying; however, most facilities offer housekeeping, self-serve laundry, commissary, mail, gyms, TV/Theater Room, etc. Each facility will have its own accommodation and policies that will be reviewed upon on-site orientation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands and work environment requirements outlined below are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. A post-offer, pre-hire Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted to ensure an employee's ability to safely meet job standards. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions. Candidates must be able to comply with the ASRC Energy Driving Records and Motor Vehicle Use Policy, successfully pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both urinalysis and hair testing, and meet the physical requirements of working in a remote location under arctic conditions. In addition, candidates will be required to pass a Fit-for-Duty Exam, complete a background check, and obtain and maintain an access badge for the work location.
