Job Description

Join our Oak Creek, WI team as a Programmable Logic Device (PLD) Engineering Intern! Our internships are hands on, highly technical, and designed to let you see what it's like to work at Astronautics. This is a paid undergraduate intern opportunity. As an engineering intern, you will work closely with our engineering staff on actual customer projects. Our summer intern program consists of at least 10 weeks of real-world experience in an engineering development environment.

In addition to PLD engineering, we have open opportunities in data security, electrical, mechanical, process, quality, software and systems engineering this summer. Mentors are assigned to assist interns in achieving engineering related career development that is of mutual benefit to you and Astronautics. Our internship program includes events and opportunities to meet other interns and employees across the organization.

As a Programmable Logic Device (PLD) Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to engage in various phases of product development, including requirements gathering and verification, detailed design and analysis, peer technical reviews, and compliance to industry and company design standards.



Potential Responsibilities:



  • Working with cross-functional project teams to create subsystems elements for flight-critical display and airborne server systems.
  • Developing, simulating, synthesizing, verifying and documenting Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) designs with VHDL as the supported HDL.
  • Preparing development lifecycle documentation, including: planning documents, requirements documents, VHDL modules, timing analyses, and verification procedures documents.
  • Executing design verification activities which include target-level testing and integration in a lab environment.
  • Demonstrating compliance with avionics standards (including DO-254).

  • Strong communication, analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Capability of working independently with limited oversight from senior engineers


Education and Experience:

Required Qualifications



  • Current accredited college or university enrollment with junior or senior standing; making progress towards an undergraduate degree in Electrical, Computer, Software Engineering, or Computer Science from an accredited institution
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75
  • Working knowledge of HDL for logic design capture
  • Experience using waveform simulation tools for design
  • Experience using FPGA Synthesis and Build Tools
  • Able to work full-time onsite during the summer of 2026
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship



Desired Qualifications



  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above
  • Working knowledge of VHDL
  • Experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, waveform generators, and logic analyzers
