The BNSF Railway Finance Department provides innovative strategic solutions and world-class financial services to support BNSF's overall performance. Within the Finance Department, several specialized departments contribute to its overall mission: Controller, Revenue Management, Strategic Sourcing, Tax, Treasury, and Strategic Studies. Each department is vital in managing BNSF's financial health and strategic financial planning. These departments work collaboratively to secure BNSF's economic stability and support its growth and innovation within the railway industry.

This is a full-timeposition located in Topeka, KS. For certain positions, including this one, employees can work one day per week remotely. Our leaders also foster a culture where work life balance, which requires flexibility for when life happens, is important and respected.

Key responsibilities may include:

This position is responsible for managing the reception and application of all freight and non-freight cash receipts for BNSF, as well as the daily and monthly reconciliation of freight and non-freight unapplied SAP general ledger accounts.

Performs journal entries between BNSF general ledger accounts for appropriate application of funds for BNSF projects, vendor refunds and all other cash receipts not specifically intended for freight and non-freight invoices.

Makes frequent adjustments for NSF and STPs on checks and electronic payments.

Works closely with BNSF Treasury for accurate inter-company fund transfers and proper reconciliation to BNSF accounts.

Assists with management of Cash Application's software applications and procedures.

Works closely with department manager to ensure work is covered/backed up.

Assists internal and external customers as well as department staff with questions and research.

Daily work is conducted in an indoor office environment.

Relocation assistance may be available dependent on business needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF's assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).

  • Bachelor's in Finance or Accounting.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of Accounting, Finance or other relevant experience.

  • Candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to keep pace with rapidly developing technology.

  • Excellent written, oral communication, and analytical skills.

  • Organization is a key component in this role, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

  • High-level of proficiency with Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of experience with Cash Application processes with knowledge of Cash Application/Accounts Receivable systems and controls.
