About the role

Position Summary

The Mobile Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a variety of mobile equipment used in facility operations. This includes front-end loaders, forklifts, and other light and heavy machinery. Operators also perform crane operations and scale house duties as needed, including weighing vehicles and managing traffic flow. Crane responsibilities may include fluffing, mixing, pit management, and hopper feeding. Additional responsibilities include conducting equipment inspections, performing routine maintenance, and assisting with troubleshooting to ensure equipment reliability and safety. This role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime, based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform daily refuse inspections as required by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

- Operate mobile equipment such as front-end loaders and forklifts to support daily facility operations.

- Conduct pre- and post-operation inspections to ensure equipment is in safe working condition.

- Perform basic maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubricating, and refueling equipment.

- Identify and report equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to maintenance personnel.

- Assist with minor repairs and adjustments under the guidance of maintenance staff.

- Maintain accurate equipment usage and inspection logs.

- Follow all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

- Read and interpret equipment manuals, safety instructions, and work orders.

- Support loading, unloading, and material handling tasks as needed.

- Work in various weather conditions and environments, including confined spaces and elevated areas.

- Participate in training and certification programs for equipment operation and safety compliance.

- Perform duties as a Scale House Attendant as needed, including weighing vehicles, recording data, and managing traffic flow.

- Operate cranes safely and efficiently in accordance with site procedures and regulatory requirements, including fluffing, mixing, pit management, and hopper feeding.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience operating heavy and light mobile equipment in an industrial or construction setting.

- Ability to operate a variety of equipment including front-end loaders and forklifts.

- Valid Massachusetts Hoisting License - 1C and 2C classifications required.

- A Massachusetts hydraulics license requires a DOT inspection and a valid driver's license.

- Basic understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems is a plus.

- Strong attention to safety and operational procedures.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb regularly.

- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

- Work in varying weather conditions.

- Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces.

- Must qualify to wear a full-face respirator.

Work Schedule

Must be flexible and available to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required by operational demands.
