As our Clinical Communications Engineer III, you'll lead design, integration, and support for hospital clinical-communications endpoints and middleware: Epic Rover smartphones, Ascom handsets with staff duress, Vocera, Zebra healthcare handhelds, and the Connexall platform for alarm routing and workforce assignments.
The Clinical Communications Engineer III job performs all system administration functions including asset management, performance tuning of systems, using various system toolset, and collaborating with vendors in the configuration of applications and hardware. What you'll do: *Own Connexall integrations and rules across nurse call, patient monitors, smart beds, IV pumps, and the EHR; design routing, assignment, and analytics to cut alarm noise and speed response. *Lead lifecycle for clinical communication devices: image, configure, and secure; manage red alert button use cases; plan WiFi 6 adoption. *Administer Epic Rover deployment and barcode workflows; partner with Clinical Informatics on bedside documentation and scanning adherence. *Support Ascom and Vocera endpoints: messaging, group/urgent broadcast, staff assignment/role-based calling, and staff duress use cases. *Drive alerting and enterprise notifications (incl. mass alerting) via Connexall; monitor outcomes and adjust configurations. *Lead incident response and root cause analysis for outages and degradations; publish postmortems and action plans. *Manage vendors, roadmaps, SLAs, and interoperability testing with network, voice, EHR, nurse call, RTLS, and paging systems. *Run safe change control in live units; pilot, validate, and roll back with clear criteria. *Participate in an oncall rotation supporting 24O7 clinical operations. Essential Job Statements Performs: software product installations, setup and configuring of new enterprise systems, systems maintenance, system backups, recovery, and file maintenance to ensure uptime and efficient performance Maintains assigned systems by keeping functionality and configurations current to support the scope of business processes and ensure the integrity of the operating system environment Enhance the capabilities and value of assigned systems by building new functionality and developing routine and ad hoc reports. Install and test system software upgrades and computer components. Collaborate with hardware and software vendors during product installations, including setup of interfaces, servers and related hardware. May lead teams and/or projects coordinating work activities, reporting on work status and providing input on team performance Performs capacity planning for the applications, servers and hardware supported. Evaluates new hardware and software solutions and makes recommendations to management. Collaborates with vendors, IT staff, management, and the platforms architect in managing and growing the platforms and storage environments. Collaborates with the vendor to periodically upgrade the system version to maintain supportability, correct systems errors and incorporate additional features. Assists in defining, designing, testing, and deploying servers. Performs operating system and subsystem installation and configurations. Work closely with department leaders to provide reports and process updates. Patient Population: N/A Employment Qualifications Required Education:Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field; or a combination of experience and education Preferred Education:Master's in related field preferred Licensing/ Certification Licensure/Certification Required:N/A Licensure/Certification Preferred:CIIP or PARCA for some areas of work Minimum Qualifications Years and Type of Required Experience: Five years of IT experience Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Utilizes considerable latitude in determining objectives of assignments and determining approaches to solutions with work performed from a long-term perspective and for achieving desired objectives. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): May lead teams and provide input into performance evaluations. Basic proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, Visio, and Project), clinical systems and/or business systems and service desk software. Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:5 years of IT experience working in a healthcare setting Combination of education and experience in lieu of a degree. Working Conditions: Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.General office environment. Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.Long-distance or air travel as needed- not to exceed 10% travel.Prolonged periods of working alone.
