Who we are looking for

Purpose

As the Lead, Trade and Channel Strategy, you will act as a thought-leader and trusted advisor on pipeline and inline product strategy by determining portfolio considerations and opportunities within and across the Rare Disease. Collaborate closely with Patient Access and Product Marketing teams in support of pricing actions, contract strategies, product discounting and contractual customer relationships, as well as with Legal, Finance, Customer Service and members of Pricing and Contracts on daily responsibilities. This position requires a motivated individual who is comfortable with change, an independent self-starter who will be immediately effective and flexible within a dynamic organization, and an individual who consistently operates with a high attention to detail, organization, and with precision for accuracy.



The individual must possess an in-depth understanding of the overall pharmaceutical product pricing and customer contracts lifecycle within the retail and specialty trade segments (GPO, wholesaler, specialty distributors, specialty pharmacy, physician, physician group practices, IDNs, mail order, specialty GPOs, etc.) with the ability to introduce best practices and effectively understand, communicate, lead, and implement processes and strategies timely, accurately and within governance. The individual must have the capability to independently resolve issues and identify and influence solutions while providing transparency for decision-making and stakeholder fair balance. They will inform distribution service agreements and other channel agreements designed to support maximum access, distribution, and overall channel efficiency.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead the tactical execution of channel design planning, informing the development and implementation of scalable, effective distribution strategies to serve short and long-term expectations while considering financial impacts and patient/customer experience.
  • Collaborate and drive alignment across key stakeholders on distribution and channel strategy development; apply subject matter expertise to maximize patient access and achieve corporate goals.
  • Partner with the Market Access team and functional business partners to lead Chiesi's understanding of distribution capabilities, market expertise and differentiation.
  • Spearhead related market research efforts and manage external vendors for additional distribution program design.
  • Develop, issue and review request for proposals to evaluate potential channel partnes.
  • Produce business cases and recommendations on channel design, exclusive, limited and open network designs, strategic alliances (third party logistics providers, specialty pharmacy, wholesaler, specialty distributor, channel data aggregators). Inform and support in relevant fair market valuation exercises.
  • Support in identifying and defining timely evolution of current Chiesi distribution programs with a focus on new product launch, risk mitigation, changes in market dynamics, competition, and/or regulatory and legislative changes.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the distribution, hospital, specialty pharmacy channels; understand pharmacy and hospital capabilities and the competitive marketplace to ensure Chiesi maintains an industry leading approach to patient support in specialty channels.
  • Exercise sound judgment in all activities to ensure integrity and compliance with company policies. Promote Chiesi core values, leading by example, developing, and fostering exceptional collaboration and promote enterprise thinking to drive breakthrough results.
  • Ensure that channel and trade partners are performing in accordance within contractual requirements, with regards to service levels, patient support, payment and business terms, etc.
  • Support internal Chiesi partners in ensuring data provided by channel partners meets contractual terms for accuracy, timeliness, and completeness.

Experience Required

  • Typically requires Biotech industry experience with at least 7+ years in Commercial Market Access, Trade and Distribution and/or contracting related functions preferably in rare disease and/or specialty markets.
  • Current knowledge of drug distribution channels including specialty distribution and specialty pharmacy and buy and bill for both medical benefit and pharmacy benefit products.
  • Proven ability to be an independent worker who can lead internal cross functional teams as well as external consultants.
  • 10+ years' experience in customer contracting and pricing required; with rebate management, contract analytics, chargebacks or a related pharmaceutical pricing and contracting role desired; 5+ years' experience specifically related to the retail and specialty trade channels.
  • Knowledge, experience, and strong understanding with government programs, such as the IRA, 340B, State Medicaid, and Medicare Part D.
  • Relevant experience with distribution networks, new product launches, trade processes, and understanding of pharmaceutical supply chain.
  • Strong analytical skills with solid understanding of Trade channel data
  • Strong understanding of the US commercial and government healthcare and reimbursement environment.
  • Proactive communications, attention to detail, self-motivated.
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively.

Education

Bachelor's degree in business or other related area.
