About the role:

As a BWR Engineering intern, you will report to the US BWR Engineering Manager and be located at our Cranberry location. This is a paid, full-time hybrid summer position.


Key Responsibilities:

  • You will participate in introductory BWR nuclear design, thermal hydraulics, and or fuel mechanics specific training and nuclear engineering learning seminars
  • Perform BWR core design calculations by using the internal and external design simulation codes, following internal methodology, and consulting with experienced peer and mentor engineers
  • You will interpret results and work with experienced engineering mentors to produce innovative new projects and loading pattern designs for operating BWR plants
  • Become a member of a nuclear engineering intern team work with interns, engineers, project managers, and business leaders
  • Examples nuclear core design intern projects may include:




    • Bounding Nuclear Core Calculations, Core Accident Scenarios, Core Loading Pattern Designs
    • Testing and Implementation of New Fuel Product Designs
    • Economical Models, Estimates, and Engineering Technical Descriptions
    • Feasibility Studies and "What if" Scenario Modeling of PWR Core Capabilities
    • Thermal Hydraulic and BWR Cooling and Moderation Operations
    • Core Startup Calculations and Low Power Physics Testing Models
    • Nuclear Core Design Calculation Automation and Software Design




Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in nuclear engineering
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Complete Sophomore year of college
  • Core introductory nuclear classes
  • Interest in Core Neutronics, Thermal Hydraulics, and/or Nuclear Fuel Design
  • Computer simulation experience


We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The hourly rate for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $22.69 to $27.50 per hour.
